Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.

Description

Founded in 1922, the Tupolev Design Bureau defined the history of Soviet/Russian aircraft development like few others. However, by the time of its consolidation into the United Aircraft Company in 2006, its standing within the Russian aviation industry had diminished, in part due to the depriorisation of large strategic bombers following the end of the Cold War.

This changed in the early 2030s, when the new Russian leadership commissioned the company to design a new bomber in an effort to reinvigorate the aviation industry and its suppliers, which had crumbled over years of brain drain and over-ambitious investments into highly expensive aircraft that only saw marginal production runs.

The Tu-32 is in many ways a scaled down, modernised successor to the Tu-22M, capable of super-sonic incursions at a much lower cost. It is designed to fulfil a variety of functions beyond just tactical bombing, such as long-range reconnaissance and anti-ship duty, and is being aggressively marketed for export following its successes against Chinese, American and GLA forces in Africa.

Notable orders were placed by India, Egypt and Tunisia, as well as surprisingly Argentina, which would use the aircraft against the British Royal Navy during the Second Malvinas/Falklands Conflict parallel to the Third World War, and Serbia which operates a small number of Tu-32s as an air-delivery option for a suspected nuclear weapons programme.

In Russian service, the aircraft has been nicknamed "Kaban" (boar) by pilots and ground crews, on account of its rugged, inelegant appearance. Western militaries having retained the NATO-era equipment designation scheme likewise refer to it as the "Boar". Whether this is a convenient allusion to the Russian nickname or a mere coincidence is a point of contention among aviation enthusiasts.
