Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.

Now you all know what most of these are from 8)! You have no idea how excited and how long I've been waiting to show these designs off! :D

Be sure to look for more o' them in the future.

My respect Comr4de. You are one of the few texture artists for C&C ZH which I pay honest respect for, for putting a lot of effort and details into them instead of rushing them out and saying "thats ZH style" or "the old game engine can't handle too much details". Thats ******** imo. I like your style for paying attention to detail - thats very important for good visuals. Keep it up man! We need more guys like you.

PS: Maybe you can send me a example of your UV layout via PM? I'm interested to see how your layout is.

Oh I do :D
No reason to make a secret out of it. Once it's released I can also inspect the game files but I'm a lazy *** and I don't want to wait when he can just send me a raw picture of the UV layout. I'm not interested in the texture or model itself ;P

I wasn't suggesting that it is a secret.

If you want to know how it's uvmapped it's simply spread out over several uvmaps i beleive the reactor uses up to 3 512 maps and the reagion command even more.

Many thanks! Means a lot.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to show you but hah, Hunter is right about using multiple files; I wanted to pack in a lot of detail but this is just one of those buildings that it took more than one to get what I wanted. Many others range lower, this is one of the complicated ones be assured.

In the previous version, when you build a Solar Reactor on night map, then build defensive add-ons, there were these green rotating arrows staying over the bunkers/SAMs. These arrows disappear normally on day maps. Is that fixed in 1.85?

Here's the best part about that whole 'satellite' thing: You can use the panels on the orbiting satellite to collect the energy and transmit it to the surface as microwaves. Most of it gets through the atmosphere and it doesn't matter how many clouds are in the way.

Would make a tad bit more sense than the current explanation of the sat part but I'm guessing it's trying to provide an economic use for the particle cannon tech in the process.

That..looks so awesome. The model itself looks extremely well done but the texturing oh sweet Emperor it just adds whipped cream to the pie. Can't wait to see the defensive hard points on this puppy..and eventually attempt to blow it up. :D

It's both your Tier 1 Building unlock; meaning you will also be able to purchase your T1 upgrades, and be your one and only dependable powerplant.

It sports enough hitpoints to last a superweapon strike, can have turrets be placed on them, and finally but not least - provides 1,000,000 power-units. So you get a nice powerplant that also doubles as a giant bullseye. Protect it at all costs.

How much does it cost?

1000 - just like the other T1 Buildings. Do remember you only get one at a time and it still takes longer to build than a normal powerplant ever dreamed of being.

Wait, what? This is the first and only type of power plant you get to build? Won't that mean you have to sit around for ages before building any kind of war factory/vehicle production or even a supply centre?

When it comes down to Defense, The ECA re like madagascar from Pandemic two:

One heavy structure which is bunkered down at the first sight of trouble.
"President ECA, A soldier in russia looked at out general direction!"
"Bunker.
Down.
everything."

There's a network of satellites that project beams around all day round. Meaning there's quite a bit of them that spread out multiple beams around.

This is more of a fluff/story question really but that's about the best explanation you're going to get.

Reply Good karma+2 votes

How about charged huge batterys which work at night but are still explosive due to high compression of energy?

Sounds better to me than satellites shooting energy around globe :P

A satellite in geostationary orbit can actually provide power 24 hours a day, assuming it doesn't get eclipsed in the process.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

We actually wanted to do that but, the beam looks way too cool. That's literally our reasoning - its a -game- after all. Why should we keep up with reality? Reality is boring =P

Description

This structure houses a more compact version of the ECA's world-famous solar-fusion power plants. Heavily sheltered under multiple layers of lead-reinforced concrete lies the reactor which receives its operating power from what was originally a downsized 'lend-lease' model of a Solaris satellite. While not quite as powerful as the full-scale civilian reactors, a single -one- of these power plants produces enough energy to sustain -every- European structure in an entire front sector. Therefore, the construction of multiple reactors at a time is neither necessary nor feasible since a single reactor alone still requires a rather large crew of professionally educated technicians, many of whom aren't entirely willing to operate these facilities in the middle of a raging battle. In order to protect them and the equally vital structure they reside in, the outer shell of the Solar Reactor comes equipped with three hardpoints that can be used to mount defensive weapons, for the loss of this vital structure may result in blackouts across the entire sector.
