The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
**Stay tuned in the News section for an article on this original character's backstory!**
Without saying too much and risk detracting from the article, I'll simply give the specifications and mechanics of how this hero will play in-game.
Ulle's Basilisk is heartier than the stock variety, more HP and ATK. Rather than being armed with lasers, the shoulder-mounted cannons have been replaced with Plex rocket launchers and the head-mounted chain gun has been replaced with dual-flame throwers.
Special abilities will be "Immolate" (which sets the targeted ground afire, damaging units that pass through it for a brief time) and "Reap" (in which the Basilisk AI super-heats it's claws to shred enemy armor and berserks, attacking furiously for a short time).
Ulle himself will take advantage of turret coding/rigging and will use his signature pistol (more on that in the article) to shoot at enemies while mounted on his war machine.
Lol! Yes, one day you will be able to take this monstrosity into battle with the Mandalorians :)
Very awesome designs.
So what's story behind Larsus?
Thank you!
That, my friend, is something you will have to wait for the article to find out ;)
It's already posted...it's just awaiting admin approval. You should be able to read up on this guy sometime later today.
Absolutely stunning, I love the amount of custom detail. Did you actually use your own Basilisk model as a base?
Thank you and yes I did. The Basilisk model shown in previous screenshots here:
Moddb.com
was used as the base. I re-textured it and added the other details to make this version.
Will this beauty be available for space combat as well? As it Says Basilisks can fly in space as well .......
You better believe it. Obviously the flamethrowers will not function in space, but the rockets will. I'm also really trying to find a way to make basilisks use melee in space.... If I'm successful, then there's that as well.
Saying that makes be think of it tearing apart star fighters and digging into Capital ship hulls
Which is something that the Basilisks were feared for.
If you are able to do this it will be a sight to behold.
Only way I can think of it is mele animation for a 0 range weapon with high attack speed once it reaches the ship. But then I doubt it will be that usable vs starfighters.
That's basically how melee works for all units in EaW anyway. The trick is getting the animations to work. I'm not sure if space units actually support an attack animation or not...but it might be fixable with a custom script.
When you released the Krayt skull I had asked if there would be any live ones. but this is so much better, a fire-breathing Krayt dragon tank/Starfighter hybrid! Awesome!
Thanks :)
Kandosii!
I love the "hand-painted" effect on the Basilisk texture.
I'm glad someone noticed! Lol. I wanted it to look like he just dumped paint on it...like he was angry when he did it or something. Plus a "dirty" paint job I think just adds to the menacing factor.
So if this guy can use a pistol on his Basilisk, what about scout troopers on speeder bikes? Endor-style drive-bys on rebels would be amusing.
While feasible, I think that this ability could be easily overused. It seems cooler if one badass guy gets to do it, I think.
Maybe make it a 'switch weapon' ability that causes them to drive a little slower and not use the speeder bike's cannon in exchange for being able to fire in a 200-or-so degree arc in front of them with a pistol.
The decreased speed should give infantry squads a fair chance of landing shots on them out when they fly by.
It would have to be the deploy ability I think...which is also doable. They could deploy in a similar fashion to the battle droids in the vanilla game, in that they still move while attacking, etc. Hmmm...something to think about anyway that would make that unit a bit more interesting.
Maybe even auto triggered ability with a cooldown?
Like, if an enemy gets near a speeder, the ability is activated and the trooper shoots from his pistol for a period of time (until the pistol overheats). That seems feasible and not OP.
The droideka ability is auto triggered when it is in attack range...then goes auto-off when it isn't. That's the easiest way to impliment, that I can figure, being that its already set up and just needs to be applied to the respective unit.
This sounds awesome in theory, but I think it's very gimmicky.
On the other hand for pirates it would be cool to have two guys on a speeder bike, one driving and one sitting in the back or a passenger seat and shooting with a blaster. Opens up a wide range of possibilites for swoop gangs...
It's actually quite similar to the Mongoose-riding UNSC marines in my Halo mod. One driver and a gunner on the back... A quick but very light unit. It'd be about the same rig too, just a different base model.
I agree though that I think it would be gimmicky and lose it's appeal after a bit. That's why I think I would prefer to just keep it to this one hero. It's a cool ability that only he gets, so it sets him apart from the common units.
Will standard Basilisk-riders be able to shoot from atop their Basilisks? I saw your response to the question regarding scout troopers, but I figure that Basilisk-riders are fairly uncommon and badass as well.
If the scout troopers can, it only makes sense to set it up for basilisk pilots too. I'm still deciding if I want to go that route though or not.
While I'm all for new stuff, I don't know if every unit needs some micro skill like "shoot pistol from bike while driving more carefully", I think it's extra work for the author and for little gain.
Little details are often worth pursuing but I do tend to agree in this case. It's a lot of setup for an ability that ultimately -for speeder bike troopers- would offer little in the way of upgraded offense.
