The Ring of the Damned mod is a Lord of the Ring spin-off for the game Savage: The Battle for Newerth. Ring of the Damned (RotD) is a total conversion, modifying everything from units, and animation, to buildings. The mod opens up abilities and gameplay never before used or seen in Savage. The maps featured in Ring of the Damned offer unique gameplay strategies that was not even thought of in the origional Savage.

The units have been redone to give them a Middle-Earth feel. You start out with simple units, such as Human Warriors and Elven Archers on the Nasiga side, or the Orc Warrior and Goblin Archer on the Tallant side. Once more units have been researched, you will be able to take control of your favorite characters, such as Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo, or Gandalf. Of course, if you choose to lead the path as one of the Tallant, you can choose Sauraman and Sauron, the lord of the one ring. It doesn't stop there however, for you can become an Ent, pummeling anything in your path, and hurling boulders at your enemies. Or, if you prefer, you can conquer the battlefield with a cave troll, smashing down units with your club or wipping them with a chain!

Ring of the Damned offers many new gameplay modes in it's custom maps. Campaign mode lets you fight over certain objectives. The assaulting side must take the objectives before the timer runs out, or else the opposing team wins. Ever wanted to take the task of dropping the ring into the fires of Mount Doom, when it is only achievable of being Frodo? Exactly this will be featured in one of the many unique and fun gameplay modes to come. This will open up new obstacles and strategy, adding diversity to the game. Two opposing factions, the Nasiga and the Tallant, will meet on the battlefield, knowing that one will not live to see another day. Let the battle begin!

Progress!

News

Hello everyone, Henry reporting from 'Ring of the Damned'! We have a new site in progress, a real site, and it should hopefully be up within a week or two! We have a couple new additions to the team! A character animator, Paul, a mapper, Straith, and a world modeler, PinnapleTheHun!

We do not have any new visuals in yet, so no new screens for you all. But, the good news, coding is going along superb! Our coding monkey, Xenocide, has been digging his nose into the code for so long, and not complaining about the large tasks put on his shoulders. I would just like to give my thanks to him :) . Gameplay is great, and in our opinion, better than the origional game, SaVage. Most of the focus is on melee, but the few ranged units can be devastating. I, along with the team, are really looking forward for this to reach Beta 1 status so the public can get your hands on it! Expect more news soon...

To be honest the melee system in savage is so bad that the only way savage would be worth buying is if this mod addresses that issue. Dono whether or not it does, hopefully so. But since I already got suckered into buying savage I might as well try out a cool LoTR themed mod. For some reason the beta of savage seemed a lot more fun then the release was. Anybody else got that feeling too? Maybe I just hate noobs (which I don't think I do) but it always seemed like the little noobish bastards got the commander position before any of us more experienced players could so then we would have to suffer through an hour long game of getting stomped on. After a week most of my old beta veteran buddys stopped playing, then I did too. :(

Thanks for the awesome comments! Well, I am going to go test it with some other team members now, and I'll get a quick video for you all ;). Coding wise it is about %80 done. We are just in need of modelers and mappers. So far, we have two models that are unskinned (Miracle blade (Nazgul's) and (Aragorn's)) and two models that are skinned (Gimli's axe and the sting (Frodo's Sword).

Ring goes on, ring goes off! Ring goes on, ring goes off!
