Overview:

Ran no Jidai is a total conversion for Rome: Total War, focused on civil war that bloodied Japan, soon after Onin War and the weakening of Ashikaga Shogunat.
The project has been running for several years, by different teamps and contributors. The main objectives were to create a game modification that depicts accurately one of most famous and longer civil war of History, recreating the unique atmosphere and gameplay of Shogun: Total War. This is a total conversion, where every aspect of the original game are modifed, alterated, transformed.

One of the famous total conversion for Rome: Total War is now at ModDB: Ran no Jidai ! This mod is focused on Medieval Japan: the bloody era of Sengoku Jidai. With 20 playable clans, 200 units, scripts, new architectures, new music and sounds, new graphisms and RS 2 environments, this is certainly a worthwhile mod. I have to say I'm not a member of RnJ Mod Team, just a player who want to give more visibility to the mod, as well as providing reliable links for download.

You can download the mod with ModDB servers: Moddb.com.

Excellent mod, I enjoy it a lot, thank you!
However it's not flawless and I hope that the author returns someday to RTW modding and everything will be fixed.
Here are the flaws I've found so far:

1) [your RTW installation]\bi\shogun2\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\map.rwm file needs to be deleted before you start the game upon the mod installation, otherwise CTD is guaranteed. Don't worry - a new and correct map.rwm file will be generated as soon as you start the game.

2) Some clans don't have active faction heirs upon the campaign start, which may lead to "double (named) character" bug and CTD on turn end. I experienced such CTD caused by Hanzo - the general/faction heir of Matsudaira clan (controlled by AI), for example. I'd suggest to open [your RTW installation]\bi\shogun2\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_strat.txt file in any simple text editor and change the second general after the faction leader of any heirless clan to be an active faction heir of that clan from the start of the campaign. For example, in order to make Matsudaira's general Hanzo to be a faction's heir from the game start you'll need to change line 426 inside descr_strat.txt
from
character Hanzo, named character, general, age 18, , x 272, y 43
to
character Hanzo, named character, heir, age 18, , x 272, y 43
The same goes for other heirless clans. Note that this will also prevent those clans from too early extermination because their leaders get killed early in the game, which may happen often without current active heirs, unfortunately.

3) The mod doesn't provide appropriate unit banners on battlefield for the in-mod samurai clans (the game still uses vanilla banners from the Barbarian Invasion instead). So I'd suggest to open [your RTW installation]\bi\shogun2\preferences\preferences.txt and change its "SHOW_BANNERS:" option from "TRUE" to "FALSE" (it can be found on line 25 inside preferences.txt).

Unfortunatelly it seems this mod doesn't work.

Problem: CTD when trying to play custom battle or campaign.

And it's not me, i've already installed 48 mods for RTW (mod foldered and not) and this is the only mod that doesn't work.

I hope they fix it, since this mod looks really nice.

-----------

EDIT: Ok, so i uninstalled it again, then installed it back again. This time i was trying the mod after each installation, to check where's the problem:

I installed Full version 2.0 ---> It's working.
I installed Patch 2.6 ---> It's working.
I installed patch 2.8 ---> NOT working. CTD.

I don't know what's wrong with patch 2.8, but it seems we have to play patch 2.6 until they fix patch 2.8

----------

EDIT 2:

I tested another thing. I thought it's possible the modders installation instructions are wrong for patch 2.8

So, what i did is to follow installation instructions for full version 2.0 in "BI" RTW folder. Patch 2.6 i also followed instructions and installed in main RTW folder (instructions this time don't say BI folder).

And for Patch 2.8 i disobeyed instructions, and instead of installing in BI folder i installed in main RTW folder (as patch 2.6). The mod is working now, but i don't think patch 2.8 has actually been applied, since what this patch does is installing folder "Shogun2" in main RTW folder and nothing else. Because the mod is launched from BI .exe, i think now it's working because that last patch hasn't actually been installed.

That's all i can help for now.

-------------

EDIT 3: Now i know why it wasn't working. I read this post:

"Fuckyousobymod Jan 23 2022
The game will crash unless after installing you need to delete the map.rwm file in bi/shogun2/data/world/campaign/barbarian_invasion."

So, this time I Installed patch 2.8 in BI folder, this time following instructions. I did what this post said and now custom battles and campaign works. No more CTDs.

And this is how i spent two hours installing a mod that should have taken only 10 minutes.

Please modders, next time don't forget to say we have to delete "map.rwm" file. And thank you for this great mod :)

It doesn't work. As soon as I try to launch any campaing or custom battle the game closes. But I use rtw mod launcher.
