The idea behind Rain Recon is Stealth. Instead of having two equal size teams, like you would in any other online FPS, Recon has one team with only two players versus the rest of the server. To make up for what they lack in numbers, they are able to use the darkness to their advantage. To achieve this, they must stick to the shadows, use silenced weapons and heat vision to gain a tactical advantage. The opposing team must use flash lights and loud weaponary in order to stop the Stealth team. However, they are armed with a heart beat sensor, which reveals the positions of the Stealth team every few seconds. This gives the Defending team an objective, and an incentive to do something instead of getting picked off. The Stealth team's objective vary, however currently planned is an escape mode, and a Intel retrieval mission type.

The Rain Recon development team is looking for a coder!

Whilst progress for the levels are storming along, it's time to start building the code for Rain Recon. The early code we need won't be complicated, we're only looking for a few basic gameplay elements. For example, controlling how many players can be assigned to a team, who can use flashlights, a crude heart beat sensor (No graphic implentation yet, text based) and a few other things.

If you're interested please get in contact! Don't forget to show a sample of your work. Send me an email at larry(at)battlefieldintel.com!

Is that like the splinter cell Chaos theory in FPS mode? I like it!

I think that the heart beat thing should go, or else it wont be evenly matched at all. Also the bulk of the server needs not only loud but bad, slow, and ineffective weapons too against silent one shot one kill type guns. Even then its still insane.

The heart beat sensors are very slow, so they only give a rough idea of the position of the Stealth team. If the stealth team move quickly, the defending team will always be on their tale.

It gives the defending team an incentive, or.. objective. Something to do rather than aimlessly stand around. However other methods may be used instead of a Heart Beat Sensor. Only by playtesting this will we find out.

You can force players to stick together by having certain parts of the levels that can only be accessed by two people. Things like two buttons need to be pressed at the same time, doors that need to be held open etc.

I will add though, it's not going to be easy. But as a mod we have the freedom to try anything we want, and why the hell not?

The idea is interesting although it reminds me too much of "Hidden source" mod, but as Magnum said, idea of two people working together is very hard in a game, unless they are friends or at least know each other, there skill levels, etc.

So yeah, good luck finding a solution for that.

hey man, another Hidden: Source would be great, i love that mod. And you can tell its a great mod because its been dead forever and lots of people still play it. I wish we had lots more mods like that, except for the whole dead part.

but the hidden is always invisible, this seems to me more like a splinter cell double agent multiplayer idea, although i've never played that. i want to, and i want to play this!

Interesting concept, but a game that requires two people to work together to win will ultimately fail (think Decadence), esp. if the opposing team has an advantage in numbers, heartbeat sensors, and flashlights. A stealth mod is very interesting in my opinion, and will sure to give a big boost in adrenaline levels if implemented correctly.
