The game takes place in the eve of the Seven Hour War. Fighting against blood shedding synths and frightening aliens, Adrian Shephard has to struggle his way with his fellow comrades from the Phoenix Command, with the main objective of stopping the construction of a Combine Citadel. In his journey he will find what has happened to the world, moments before the Seven Hour War.

is shephard still a coporal in this mod, or is he gonna be a higher rank?
I don't see why he'd be promoted, since the US Marines were probably disbanded when the Combine took over.
still a corporal. he's still wearing the same dogtags from OF1.
Well his rank is irrelevant but due to him being a veteran from black mesa im sure other marines would look up to him or follow his lead. The same with any X military that might have survived especially from after the resonance cascade & Black Mesa. Squad structures would be more localized and independent with a near mod like mentality IE a loose knit organization so to speak.
It makes sense that the soldiers in the Phoenix Command would look up to Shephard as a veteran. The G-man would have made sure they knew who the Corporal was before he put him back into the world. Remember how Barney and Dr Kleiner were expecting Gordon in HL2 even though it had been 20 years since the events of HL1?
Assuming any sort of military organization has survived so far, I doubt promotions would be high on the list.
Actually, if any military organisation did survive, it's far more likely they'd want to bump Shephard up several ranks so he could take command of some of the remaining forces; veterans with the correct training and experience to command would be few and far between.
But I think as Phenixtri said, the chain of command would have broken down into smaller units.
But who will he command? And why would they let him? No matter what he survived, he was only a corporal which is a very minor position. I doubt they would make him a major when they still have a few surviving captain's and lieutenant's. Or if things are even worse, than WHO will promote him? There is a chance everyone up above is dead, and even if they did give him a promotion, who would he lead? If things are so bad they have to give him such a promotion than what are the chances of there being any men for him to lead?
Well other military guys with a higher rank in command of a local group would promote him again like I said before command structures are far more localized and loose knit with probably around regional or state unit size.
The HUD looks great. Nice and clean.
do you have different skins for the highway signage? you should put something like "next exit, 1/2 mile" or something to that effect
i also notice a misalignment on the highway itself, unless there is a break in the road itself. you could use a small rubble pile to hide the misalignment if it is too difficult to line up properly.
really nice overall, it feels like a huge battle.

reminds me of BF2 levels. Excellent mapping work guys. The amount of detail is great, and shows how capable source still is of producing good graphics.
Question about weapons - will they have idle animations? I always hated how HL2's stock weapons almost all had no idle anims, they looked so lifeless compared to HL1, since HL1 had gordon play with his weapons or stretch his fingers, etc.
im sure they do ive noticed it in some of the weapons when the devs were testing in one of their vids.

The shotgun looks especially nice, but im guessing they are default HL2 anims? If it is it still looks nice, I like this screenshot.
I hope that glove is a placeholder for Shephard's military glove bacause I don't see how he could aquire a HEV Suit.

I think shepherd should be promoted, because he did kill the leader of Race x.
Well.. There hasn't really been any kind of word that the Gene Worm was a leader of the Race X, it could have merely been used as a weapon.
he's just misunderstood, he wanted to share his gift of spiting mountain due mist with Shepard.
The Gene Worm is just a wild worm used as a Terra-former... Not the leader of Race X.
Also... I kinda doubt much the HECU Military even realized what Shephard did.
It's always so weird how a lot of half-life 2 mods are BETTER than half-life 2 itself. Makes me think Valve can do better than the half-life games they've already released.

I don't like the transparent zeros in the hud. Rest is nice.
Trust me. Me when aliens take over your neighborhood, Ranking will be the least of your worries, since Aliens will be arming a deadly Pulse cannon at your door step.
So I am sure Shephard has much more to worry about. Unless you think other wise?
