The game takes place in the eve of the Seven Hour War. Fighting against blood shedding synths and frightening aliens, Adrian Shephard has to struggle his way with his fellow comrades from the Phoenix Command, with the main objective of stopping the construction of a Combine Citadel. In his journey he will find what has happened to the world, moments before the Seven Hour War.
actual model, not a render! and thanks a lot to Dr. Cube who gladly accepted helping us out with this one!
and why in the world would it need scratches and dirt? that's quite stupid, it's like the phoenix don't take care of their guns.
Maybe I should make it more noticeable but you can see that the chin rest and the where you hold the front of the gun up has some wear on it. all the edges on the metal have wear, I just didn't want to go crazy with it.
This sniper rifle looks good. Holy crud!
Very nicely done.
great work OF2 team :)
Awesome. Can't wait to see the animations, this looks badass
Houndeye won't see this coming.. :D
Not bad not bad at all just needs a sling and or bipod and its good to go.
um ok seems like no one remembers the old OP4 sniper had a sling. it would be nice and nostalgic if they added a sling on this model as well.
ya it did have a sling back then but shepard dose not need it now because gman gave him a magic satchel.
boom! headshot!
Right. That's my weapon of choice sorted. :P
I can see that you toned the specular down a bit. Nice job. This will be fun to use.
not a huge fan of the general look of the scope's texture (looks like the hogue) - this is still high quality stuff though, good job.
I think that textures need more damage.

Just like your head. ^^

MEOW!!
I see that constructive critisism isn't accepted well here ... So I should simply write (like bazylion of other ppl.) "This is amazing!"? I noticed that textures could use some dirt and scratches and You act like stupid kid (YOU SHALL NOT FLAME THIS MOD, DIE!). Think, before You write.
Yes I agree There are lots of Jackassess around this site, think they can screw us with karmas.
no constructive critisism is fine but texture needing more damage is very vague and does not help the artist. Also what is the fascination that none can look after their gun and must look very damamged.
It's certainly a funny joke. But the rough. And he's right, adequate criticism.
I'll try and beat it up more, but honestly I feel like if I add anymore it will look overblown and not correct.
I don't really like the texture of the actual body of it, but the scope, bolt, etc are great. Great job. Always loved this!
What do you suggest I do with the body to make it better?
First off, thank you for taking my criticism so well. I really hate it when people go apeshit because I try to suggest to make their stuff better.
Anyways, it's just the texture of the body - it seems like someone just generated a cloud texture and placed it on. I'm not sure how I'd fix it, and I understand how annoying this is, but it does need fixing. Try adding a specular map. It looks pretty shiny here: Desmond.imageshack.us . Also, I'd try increase the grain a tad, and make the wear color slightly less saturated. It doesn't need to look like it's been through hell and back, but at the same time, not right from the factory. In WWII, for example, I heard a lot of guns were from WWI. Maybe no one will notice it when being wielded, though.
Oh, also, I read about that oily fingerprint thing - that's genius.
"Better" is in the eye of the beholder.
good model
Is the scope view all scratched up like the last one?
Uh not sure, I there is oily fingerprints in the spec map on it though.
For me, this model brings back old memories from the original Opposing Force...
This is a great rife model but I feel there could be some more detail such as scratches or other signs of usage. Anyway, looks awesome. Keep up the good work! :D
This is amazing!
Glad you guys like the model, and thank you for the constructive criticism.
Looks very good, but is it supposed to be missing the front and rear sights?
Why did Mod-DB double post my comment?
:/
What's with that cartridge randomly floating off to the side there? Is that supposed to be that way, or is that part of some animation?
Yep its for the animation.
In fact, the moderately maintained sporting .22lr rifles are in good shape for years. As for the skin; in my opinion metallic parts shouldn't be tampered with, only few minor deficiencies on plastic and rubber.
I feel like the texture on the stock could be improved. It's not a bad texture it just feels very bland. Maybe make it darker with more pronounced shadows. And it might add a bit more character if you added some sling mounts to the model. Other than that it looks great!
Better ?

Why use the revolver again, why not use the desert eagle with guiding dot like the original Opposing Force?
I want it so I can snipe combine.
The scope texturing looks OK, but there's just something about the body texture I'm not enjoying so much. Perhaps, as other people said, it needs more wear-and-tear in general. If this gun were to be used by people fighting the Combine, it would appear to have more scratches on the metal and some paint wearing and chipping away.
I'm a texture designer myself and if I can offer a few suggestions, it really does look like a cloud texture overlay on a solid color. What I would do is put a grunge texture over the diffuse and change the blending mode to "multiply" then decrease the opacity. This will give the texture a more grainy and more realistic look. And don't apply dents or gouges, it makes the gun look like it was thrown through a garbage disposal. Apply a very few small nicks here and there for a bit more realism, and apply a few specks of dirt or maybe a few light stains. Don't go overboard with it though, as it looks fake and cheap then. Just do what you think is right and it will look right.
Wish you would use the M40a5 verient since its the latest in the family
