... Are You Operator Enough?
least practical? its a dual purpose semi automatic / pump action shotgun whats not practical about that ... aside from its being expensive tho that more due to a limited production run ... aside from this the only other dual purpose shotgun available is the Benelli M-3 Supper 90 0_o
for normal wartime combat yes its too heavy but for RIOT police, spec ops, and SWAT units its useful as it can be either a conventional semi auto with lethal rounds or pump action when needing to fire special ammunition like non lethal taser, rubber, & bean bag rounds
and cut it some slack this combat shotgun was the 1st of its kind developed before the more modern and lighter Benelli M-3 S-90 came into widespread use
Ok, where to start. Too expensive, the stock, and carry handle suck. It doesn't cycle on semi unless you have real hot rounds. You need to press a button to allow you to load the tube. The **** stock, and hot ammo is gonna knock you off target, and fatigue you more quickly then other shotguns. The sights well not that important on this type of gun, still leave something to be desired. Some also say it doesn't point/shoot very instinctively either.
I could probably think of some more, or look on the internet for more, but I'll just end in saying I'd take a regular pump, semi or the Benelli M3 any day over the SPAS-12.
Still a very cool looking gun though. Wouldn't be in so damn many movies if it didn't look so cool.
again it was the 1st and back during the 70s there was alot of experimental and wonky looking guns in the works some were great others not so much but when comparef to previous gen weapon "prior" to the 70s the SPAS was literally the only dedicated Dual Purpose shotgun out there. And yea it needs really hot rounds for semi auto remember it was designed to fire slugs or magnum shells in that fire mode.
The SPAS-12 was designed in the late 1970s by the Italian company Luigi FranchiSpa as a special purpose, military and police close combat weapon (actually,SPAS stands for Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun, or Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun, depending on the source). It featured a selective action for greater versatility, and can be used as a gas operated semi-automatic repeater or as a manually operated pump action, """depending on the mission and ammunition used. Since its introduction SPAS-12 became a very popular weapon among police 'most notably with US SWAT teams' and special forces, being versatile, reliable and with good firepower""". On the other hand, it is heavier than most other similar shotguns and quite complicated, which results in relatively high prices.
So are you agreeing with me then? We aren't talking about the 70s we are talking about current day operations. The regular pump, or straight semi auto shotguns existed back then too, and did their jobs better than the SPAS doing a half-assed job at both roles. Back in the 70s i'd stick to either a straight pump gun, or semi auto gun. Today I'd do the same, or go with a Benelli M-3.
The SPAS-12 is pretty, but that's about it.
doesn't mean its a **** gun tho as in the end of the day it gets the job done in a spectacularly bloody fashion like all shotguns do.
Also a modern production variant with more polymer or nylon components would still make it a valid choice for CQB combat even in semi auto and id honestly prefer the hotter ammo i mean come on who doesn't like slug or magnum shells aside from those on the receiving end?
as it stands current models on the market are more than suitable for US SWAT teams who still have them in stock tho being slowly phased out with the newer M-3s.
Yeah! The most tactical, and least practical shotgun ever made.

Cmon. 4.4 kg. 4.4 f*cking kg. It just useless with this weight. And for God sake, you just dont need a dual purpose shotgun.
