Why would turkey join the Soviets?

Russia and turkey have hated each other since before WW1

Ah shoot; forgot they were part of the central powers in ww1.

Just Wikipedia'd it: looks like they could have gone both ways in ww2 though (but they joined the allies last minute).

I do know that I made them a Soviet country to balance the country count on both sides, though. Foreign relations are fickle I guess.

Oops, spoke too soon. If this info is accurate, then it would be a better argument for making Turkey one of the Soviets:

(Also from wikipedia):

Apparently the Bolshevik Soviet assisted revolutionaries in Turkey allowing a republic to be established. In that span of twenty/thirty years they were actually on good terms. Turkey even took loans from the Soviet Union (which makes Turkey's powers here ironic.)

Stalin ruined that when he called for bases in the area.

I guess in this timeline we can say that demand for bases went much smoother.

Why not have Iran, Afghanistan, Chile, Brazil, and India also be in the Soviet bloc to balance out say, Pakistan, Portugal, Peru, Argentina, and Thailand?
