Just a couple screnshots of mapping progress in the second part of the chapter titled 'Labwork'
You'll notice some new server style console props off to the left.
Yea loox good :) but I am guessing that is a cart ? Wondering why it would be laying on its side like that and the box is sittin upright.
I would expect maybe a table laying on its side also the box laying on its side, stuff like that.
Ive actually set many of the props up in such a way that if you were to play the level more than once, the chances are pretty good that the debris wont always be in the same place in the same orientation. Its probably one of those minor details that wont be noticed by many players, but I like to add that stuff. While mapping for Far Cry 2 I was asked a few times why I wasted time on details that hardly anyone noticed. Its because for those that DO notice, the little things are big. So basically, that box doesnt just look like it fell there - it actually did.
I'm fond of the boxes on the right.
That is a nice contrast to the other bright areas. Yeah, this box looks a little strange, but it was not the first thing I noticed. The spotlights (pretty sure you used point_spotlight) aren't positioned perfectly yet.
Nice. Still no bump mapping but I think the ultra-smooth surfaces lend this project a unique personality. Keep it up!
Yeah, only the ceiling has the bumpmapping done so far. I havent done much because I'm considering just buying the license to use Shadermap Pro since last I checked it was only 20 bucks.
Also, I do intend to have a lot of the ultra smooth surfaces...it does indeed give it its own personality :)
That, and Im still coming to grips with the actual bumpmapping. I want to use both bumpmapping and reflectivity in many of the textures but so far, I cant get GIMP or Paint.Net to output an alpha channel, which I need for both. I an get gGIMP to output an apla channel when it comes to transparency (which it actually just merges the transparent areas with the RGB layers) but its always all black when I try to export it. I may have to pay for photoshop too :(
