For this competition, we asked entrants to find Halloween inspiration on The Unknown!
This is a Source mod that uses Mapbase and Source 2013 Singleplayer SDK. To install, place the "eyecandy2" and "mapbase" folders inside your "sourcemods" folder which can be found under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods" if you are using the default Steam install path. Adjust as necessary.
Then you need to make sure you have installed "Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer" under the tools section of your steam library, then you also need to make sure that you have set it to the "upcoming" beta. You can do this via right clicking on the SDK, selecting "Properties", then "Betas" and lastly selecting "upcoming".
First!
I need to get an external hard drive so my computer won't have three drives so I can download more of these!
These contests should really end as soon as beefbacon submits a map. Guaranteed first place every single time
The Wayder Residence - too much of "THE UNKNOWN" can't outshine the lack in other departments.
DATA_RETRIEVED - a very classic sci-fi horror in space. And I'm saying it in a good way. The only thing I wish was more developed before last seconds was "imitating speech" part.
CODE_LOCK_EXPUNGE - storywise, there is no horror. Nice one but misses the mark of competition for me.
SUBJECT - uuh, cinematic. Unfortunately it promised more than delivered. The intro dialogue gave me the most enjoyment.
The Haunted Dive - I would prefer no enemy encounters in this competition. And no TBC endings in general. But I'm all for SOMA vibes.
HEATDEATH - ******* mazes.
The Pit - bonus entry at it's finest.
Visitor - exactly what I expected from this mappack.
Overall DR is the best with mapping, atmosphere, giving lore through notes (while foreshadowing). Visitor is a golden standard where mapping, gameplay and theme are at the proper level. SUBJECT and HD both have great opening.
There any steam page to play all maps in once? (Its pain in the *** to configure settings for each mod and copying userconfig.cfg doesn't help either)
i need someone to explain to me why instead of doing literally anything else beefbacon decided to just ******* annihilate this whole map labs thing by making god quality maps that i never knew even possible to make in source. how is he doing something like that in like a few weeks? why?
