Well thanks for the tweakfile, it really is one of the less desirable "balance features" that you have addressed in a sensible manner.
As you state, if some arty is lost in the tall grass (or a bloody bush or tree) there are times that you just can not locate them. It's not like they're particularly common either.
The logic for disabling this feature, which you re-enable with:
pickup_visible = true ;false previously
..is beyond my fathoming. Maybe Dwave think 100s of thousands are playing their "gem."
(Anything else I should know about your recoding? The hardcore looks to be the same size as the other copy)
The hardcore version was taken from the Extra Hardcore Survival mod from the official mod channel in the launcher. It slightly changes weight and some effects of most artifacts.
Finally, grass in this game is so detailed some artifacts get lost forever.
