On the 12th of February 2050 the president; a fair and just leader - a figurehead for equality and human rights and the leader of the most powerful country in the world, got up that morning, left his wife and child and made his way to work. Once there, he proceeded to draft a memo detailing his resignation. In it he claimed to be tired of fighting for a worthless cause and wanted to devote his time bringing up his child. As far as anyone was concerned he went home that day and did just that.

I remember that goodbye and I remember the man who left that day. My father was the greatest leader this country has ever had. The lowest crime rate in history, unemployment and homelessness a distant memory. Things had changed so much - most of us thought for the better. Sadly, there will always be those who leach off the suffering of others. The arms dealers, criminal gangs, drug lords and the 'upper class' with their polluting lifestyles. Those were the people he despised. No doubt my father had many enemies.

It could have been any of the above that conspired against him that day and led to the memo and 'resignation'. Needless to say my father did not come home that night. If it was not for my mother's quick thinking in dragging me from the house we would have vanished too.

I have spent much of the past 20 years trying to unravel the details surrounding that day. What I know must be told, but I fear my investigations have attracted my own set of enemies and I have little time left before they send someone for me...

The world is a changed place. The perfect society shaped by the vision of one man now lies in ruins. Torn apart by the corruption and deceit of the men cast out by this new world. With the justice system in tatters, the common people are forced into a world of drugs and violence. With nothing to stop them the disorder the government had suppressed was once again leading the streets into chaos. With the police force a distant memory, private companies (eager to profit from the turmoil) loan themselves out in secret to the highest bidder and dole out 'justice' and terror in equal measures with the public none the wiser. A world where right and wrong are based on the size of your wallet. This is Jun's world.

Orphaned at the age of 4, Jun barely remembers her parents. Left alone on the streets Jun knew how hard life can be. Haunted by the death of her parents she endures frequent nightmares, insomnia and violent sleepwalking. It is no wonder that by the time she enters an orphanage less than a year later she appears to be both mute and severely mentally scarred.
Expelled just a few weeks later, Jun is forced back onto the streets. Alone, scared and deeply disturbed it is not long before Jun is recruited by a small time criminal gang and starts working the streets. Making full use of her childlike innocence - pick pocketing came easy to Jun and she found herself a place in the dark remains of civilisation.

Her talent did not go unnoticed. She attracted the attention of one of the biggest private firms in the city. Soon recruited into their ranks, Jun spent the next 12 years taking on small jobs for the company. Through intense training and enduring numerous experiments, Jun became a changed person. Trained in a wide variety of martial arts, a crack marksman and extremely strong and agile, due to the experiments Jun developed numerous abilities beyond those of a ordinary human. These unique skills set her aside from her counterparts and made her a powerful ally.

Still tormented by the past and driven by the promise of answers, Jun descends into the dark underbelly of society searching for answers to her parents deaths.....

Law of the shadow (working title) is a Third-person action/adventure game based in the not too distant future. Based upon the popular source engine, the game will follow Jun in a third person perspective. Combining high detail linear mission maps with large scale explorable areas in many different locations. A large element of stealth tactics is involved in the game , however the player can choose to use less silent tactics. Jun will have a limited arsenal of weaponry at her disposal along with a set of 'unique' skills .

Wow its been so long ! - Time for news I think:

The past year has been an odd one to say the least. Needless to say the development of Law of the Shadow has stopped. I have had way too much going on at University to be able to keep updated with everything.

However there is light at the end of the tunnel. I will be entering my 3rd year at university in September and plan to re-develop this IP as part of my final dissertation. This will have to be done of my own back so it will not be a full release but expect all new art work, models and levels.

IF anyone has been keeping an eye on the mod then thank you ! Keep us on your watched list and hopefully I will be able to really do this mod proud.

Thanks for your time,

Rich

Please, get to know it is told that the engine can provide good content, so stop bashing it. Anyway, the story looks well done, the images are innovative for a game, so keep up the good work.

You don't need the prettiest and newest engine to get things done... sigh.
But good luck!

Choose a different engine while you still can, like Cryengine 2 or Unreal 3 engine, this will never work on Source. The concept art looks very nice ;)

Currently the concept art doesn't reflect the true size of the maps. Plus with the release of episode 2 and the updated SDK / changes associated with that the source engine will be able to handle more than before. As soon as I can i intend to find out just how far i can push it within our design/technical limits. watch this space.. ^^

Source can't cope with huge maps, but good look. Very promising.
