I was participating in the project which as been "abandonned" due to everyone lack of time to continue in 2016 or 2017.
It was only a beta lacking a lot of what we wanted to add. I didn't recall that we had time to add events in this version.

Well, did you install it on Steam?
I may suggest that you follow up these steps here:
Twcenter.net
It could be the virtual store problem.
Please check the following directory inside your medieval II total war installation: mods/Italian_Wars/data/text and open the files with a .txt and check if their content is still German.
