Israeli Defense Force: Fight for Independence is a Total Conversion modification for the PC game Battlefield 2 (A.K.A. BF2). What we aim to achieve with this mod is to immerse the player into the historic wars involving Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, which are the 6-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War. The player will be able to play as a common soldier, crewmember, or pilot in these wars. The mod will feature historically accurate equipment such as the famous Russian AK-47, the fearsome SO-4050 bomber, the menacing IS3 and M48 tanks, and much, much more. Also, the maps will recreate actual battles that happened in these wars, to complete a historically-accurate and immersive modification. IDF:FFI is also a member of the acclaimed cooperative gaming studio Black Sand Studios.
The Arab armies will be receiving a major upgrade in the jeep category. Here we have the UAZ-469. The great model & texture are from our friends at the USI mod.
The UAZ-469 (nickname Kozlik (Goat) is an off-road military light utility vehicle manufactured by UAZ. It was used by Soviet and other Warsaw Pact forces. The 469 was exported to 80 countries including Egypt and Syria. Developed from the GAZ-69, the UAZ-469 was introduced in 1971. The UAZ-469 presented two great advantages: It was able to drive in virtually any terrain and it was very easy to repair.
As you can see the UAZ-469 will come in a variety of configurations with different weapons. This is a really nice idea the USI mod team had and is something we would like to expand on with our vehicles. We have added the SPG-9 recoilless gun by the PR mod team as another UAZ variant. This will give the infantry a light, fast and powerful punch. Just don't take on a tank and expect to live to long!!

I'm not an expert on the topic of the October War but aren't the UAZ configurations presented a bit too... modern?
That is a good question.
There is not a lot of information on the support vehicles like jeeps & trucks that the armies used. There is A lot of info & photos on things like tanks, aircraft, etc. All sides where using the some of the most advanced weapons & vehicles at the time. The arab armies where supplied with very advanced soviet equipment, T-62s, BMPs, Su-17s, SAMs, AT-3s & UAZs. I know for sure they mounted recoilless guns and HMGs to some UAZs. The most common jeep in 1973 was probably still the GAZ-69 which we will still have on most maps.
We probably will not include things like TOW missiles which the IDF had but did not appear to use.
