Great job! You know what would be good for this mod? Giving all the ships multiple armaments. BY that I mean let them have secondary weapons like point defense turrets on the Ion Frigate. So it isn't defenseless against fighters.
Would break the balancing of the game somewhat, however cool it would be :)
Not really. Don't make it an anti fighter frigate. Just let it be able to defend itself so it isn't helpless. Balancing would be easy. If you look at modern navies. All ships have multiple weapon systems. They just have one weapon system as the primary focus. The rest are secondary weapons. There as backups to support the primary weapon. Hell make the PDS do no HP damage. Make it do EMP damage to disable fighters instead.
Actually, that's a great idea! The ion cannon frigate can't damage anything, but it can delay it's destruction until backup arrives!

Oh I completly agree with the practical side of it but.. I'm not sure how much JK wants to stay pure to the original game or if he is moving away from it with ideas like this...
I love a good Pew Pew as well though :D, can you imagine the panic for the pilot, the EMP knocks out his ship and all he can do is sit in horror as the entier Frigate turns to fire the Ion beam at him!.
