First, download win xp virtual operating system at Microsoft official site: (read their instructions carefully)
Microsoft.com
Then start the Win XP Mode and run your Homeworld modding tools, for example, Cold Fusion HOD Edit
If it requires COMDLG32.OCX and MSCOMCTL.OCX, just download them on Internet and put them into Windows\System32 folder of Win XP virtual OS then run the "RUN" command line (in Start menu) and input "regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx" and "regsvr32 MSCOMCTL.OCX". Done! You can use those HW tools in this virtual Win XP OS now without having to switch between computers or OS frequently.
How to run all the Homeworld tools on Windows 7
I can't run Homeworld HOD tools on Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, I finnaly solved this problem by installing a Win XP virtual OS.

Will all modders need to do this?
running on xp mode or a virtual computer if they do not have win xp?
I guess yes...Some Homeworld tools cannot run on Win7, I don't know whether it is because Win7 doesn't support them or 64-bit doesn't. At least I have to run these tools on a Win XP PC or in virtual XP mode.
Hello. I am trying to run HW2 onwindows 7 home premium. I have tried the BCD fix from the homeworld 2 forum and can not find virtual XP mode for windows 7 home premium. I have tried with and without your mod. Can you direct me to a fix ? I just bought this machine mainly so this game would play better and all maps would load.
Thanks Kay
Problem fixed. Saw on another forum to copy the whole HW2 folder to the new machine. Works perfectly. Looking forward to playing the maps that the old computer wouldnt load.
