An unofficial mod manager for Halo Wars: Definitive Edition. Works for both PC and Steam distributions. Second major release. Installation instructions and changelog in description.
[Version 2022.1.1] Halo Wars: DE Mod Manager
Disclaimers:
Halo Wars: Definitive Edition © Microsoft Corporation. The "HaloWarsDE Mod Manager" was created under Microsoft's "Game Content Usage Rules" using assets from Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, and it is not endorsed by or affiliated with Microsoft.
Prerequisites:
- A legal copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition from either Steam or the Microsoft Store
Important Note!
Previous releases of the mod manager will be disabled on ModDB due to instabilities and the push to different methods for auto-updating. Users who have versions 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 installed AFTER this update will no longer receive auto-updates. Previous versions will remain on the GitHub repository for archival, but it is strongly recommended to NOT use them!
Changelog:
- Squashed Bugs:
- Directory junctioning will no longer relocate the game's LocalAppData folder due to risks of junctions not being reverted. Mods will now have their ModData folders junctioned as well as the necessary ModManifest.txt file being created on-demand.
- Fixed issue with Microsoft Store installations where the game would only launch vanilla. This was due to denied permissions ("ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" with "Read" permissions on "ModData"). This permission will also be applied when needed and removed after closing the game.
- General Changes:
- Releases for the mod manager will now be compiled to custom installers instead of an SFX package
- Manager will now minimize once the Halo Wars: DE process is caught and display a toaster notification indicating that it has done so
- Desktop shortcuts will no longer appear on startup. Users will now select this option when installing a new release.
- Auto-updates are now handled similarly to how Notepad++ delivers its own updates. Each update will come in a small installer for users to interact with instead of a random command prompt. This allows my code to be greatly simplified, and it lowers any risk of someone thinking that a malicious process is taking hold of their system (some people get spooked by random command prompts appearing)
- AutoUpdate.exe has been removed. Auto-updates will be handled directly within the manager's main process (again, code simplifications). Also, a small window will now appear whenever the manager is downloading an update package, indicating its progress.
- Visual Changes

wont show up
Is there a way to make the program look for both ModData and Data? Because it seems a lot of modders chose to name the important file 'Data' instead of 'ModData', which makes your program miss the good bits.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I just picked up the Steam version on sale today, and went to install this, but it keeps popping up "LocalAppData Directory" not found. Should I just run an instance of the game to make that happen?
OK, ignore me, just needed to run the game once. All good now!
