Hello spartans.

Actually, most spartans survived the initial glassing fo the planet in the books because the covenant did not glass the area they were in. they continued to fight, and several managed to escape, and live to fight, but were wittled down to... 5? total, including the chief? 4 if you exclude the retired spartan...

There was one spartan who was retired, I think she's the spartan that tested all the new spartan armor before it got sent to the chief.

Maria, designation Spartan 062.

Tested the Mark VI MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor And had it pass the test, after it was then sent up to Cairo station.

Kurt (forget the designation) could also be considered "retired" as he didnt partake in spartan operations for almost 20 years I believe, while training the S-III's

I wouldn't exactly call kidnapped by ONI and set to work on a new secret project "retired," but yeah, there was him. I believe that there was Kelly, Kurt, Maria, John and Fred.

There's also Linda isn't there? I was pretty sure that she had survived the fall of Reach as well.

Well, kinda. She was almost dead and survived in a vegetative state only because she was placed in cryo.

actually, kurt, KIA on the planet... onyx i believe. linda, sucessfully revived, only spartans left now are John, Fred, Linda, Kelly, Maria, Naomi are the only CONFIRMED spartans left alive, but john is unofficially listed as MIA due to the dawn being split in half. there are 3 spartans left on the Spirit of fire (yes the SoF is canon, but no clue if 343i will continue its story)

Well, they wanted to know which survived Reach, and the Battle of Onyx wasn't until long after.

Also Spartan Gray Team. I know they haven't been in contact for years but as far as I know they aren't confirmed dead either.

There's also the lady in Glasslands who was taken out of the Spartan Program because she wouldn't be able to handle the augmentations and instead works for ONI

Bungie(?) released a comic on the aftermath of reach where Jun did end up dying to get Halsey away from some Zealots.

I'm not 100% on if it was Bungie or not, because it was a long long time ago, but if you google it, you'll probably find it.

Haven't finished the comic so I don't know if that's the ending, but I think you're talking about 'A Fistful of Arrows,' which Bungie didn't release. They did feature it in a Bungie Weekly Update, however.

in Halo:first strike three spartan stay above in the pillar and the rest go down to reach the covenant were looking for a fourunner artifact so they didn't glass the entrance to they way to it which is were most of the remaining 5 Spartans two Spartans (Fred and i forget the female's name) were still out side in banshee's while admiral whitecomb and 3 Spartans were inside the former Spartan research base they all met up and made their way down to find doctor Hasley then John and some marines a navy pilot and an ONI officer arrived above they had a wounded Spartan who was Grace eventually they all met up but in the end it was Fred,Grace, and John because Hasley took the Spartan who's name i can not remember and booked it to an unknown location i need to read the other books

Halo: Glasslands was released on October 25th, 2011, I have yet to read it, but I know that Dr. Catherine Halsey makes an appearance, so I would expect the novel to resolve the ending of Halo: Ghosts of Onyx to some degree. Halo: Glasslands is the first book in a new trilogy of novels called the Kilo-Five trilogy being published by Tor Books. It will be related to Halo 4 and its sequels, collectively known as the Reclaimer trilogy.
