Showing off some more new assets for SotP 2, this will be our Lancer-class model soon to be showing up in game. Along with a couple more new corvette classes, the Lancer will be brand new to the roster of the UNSC and will serve as a cheap but effective option for shoring up defenses, fast raiding fleets and general swarm tactics against enemy ships.

In the last picture you can see its size compared to the Gladius-class heavy corvette and another newcomer, the Seax-class light corvette

Nice, glad to see you're fleshing out the smaller vessel sizes.
One thing I always struggled to balance in SoaSE was making smaller ships necessary in spite of being able to churn out larger vessels like hotcakes. Will these be more micro focused? Does it have a defined niche or reason to build them in the later game?

Very clean lines on these models, as always.

What we've been tinkering with is mostly still working under the balance rules we built up in v0.90 Warlords - so, things like speed classes, countering, and range classes. We've now also introduced a forward damage reduction effect to encourage players to flank, and use those speed classes to manuever around during engagements.

Now, this isn't to say that all the corvettes will be extremely speedy; however, they will often serve the purpose of manuver and harassment. What you might see is something like the Seax being a more nimble craft. It's going to get around, pestering targets with effective and consistent damage from their sides or rear. It's going to be necessary to have something ready to counter that threat, and deciding what that is and how it's positioned to respond is important. Maybe it's another corvette handling screening, like the Lancer, which is deadly to other corvettes thanks to its many coilguns.

Overall, these ships are going to be cheaper, but the trade off with smaller ships is often vulnerability in other areas. What we're doing with the counter system is a lot more holistic than before, so there's a lot of fun design to ensure a place in the roster for these corvettes to excel within.

Are corvettes going to perform like larger ships where they essentially engage and don't move (unless ordered) or are they going to be more nimble and fly around weaving through enemy lines while firing guns and dodging shots if engaging? Also love the update pics you guys dropped!
