Futurewar is a sci-fi themed mod featuring a flag-domination-based (compare: DoD, Firearms) gameplay on relatively large maps. The mod's target groups are the average public player who's looking for an easy to learn mod, as well as larger clans who are up for some tactical battles.
It's NOT a realistic-type mod, it borrows a lot from good old Team Fortress Classic. You won't have to buy weapons from an endless list of mostly useless guns, you won't have to spend time picking skills from ugly menus or getting owned by players with better configuration-screen-clicking-skills.
Futurewar is class-based, you choose from six individual classes (scout, soldier, weapons expert, demoman, support and spy), each with their own weapons, gadgets, advantages and disadvantages and you're ready to go.

The two teams fighting each other are easily recognizable by team-colored laser weapons (Comparable to star wars blasters). While the weapons don't do much damage and there will never be any instagibbing to encourage action-rich combat, Futurewar however tries to create an immersive universe and enhanced gameplay while simulating details of the sci-fi weapons like different accuracy in different positions/movement modes (You're less accurate when running).
However, we're also trying to re-think and improve details of gameplay where most other mods lack: For example, user interface. Our weapons will never ever spray randomly, but instead, the instability of your weapon will be communicated by advanced, easy to learn dynamic crosshairs systems - with a little skill, you will be able to fire single aimed shots even while running, and know exactly how your weapons behave by simply paying attention to your user interface.
Also, Futurewar employs a unique system to enable the player to travel the large maps without long, boring walking: As the fighting is supposed to take place in a dark-post apocalyptic modern city (large but pretty linear maps focussing on battlezones like large plazas where the flags are positioned that get connected by tighter transition areas), both teams can use the old subway system to their advantage, and capture subway stations to travel to the frontline - while the flags are the only real "objective", subway stations are equally important strategic locations.

Like this, Futurewar doesn't try to impose a complicated gameplay with various objectives on the players (you like reading mission briefings? I don't...), but instead focusses on a simple gameplay that gets enhanced by the possibilities our world offers:
Hidden in sidestreets, you may for example find an old car or a rusty van that may be used by your team?
For example, some physics will be used smartly to enhance gameplay as well. You won't find any random physics-object spammage in Futurewar. Instead, we use it to create gameplay-relevant objects and items - for example, you can find heavy barrels filled with sand or iron spare parts in some location - by carrying them to the frontline, you can construct a mobile cover for your team that won't only block incoming laserfire, but may also be heavy enough to stop vehicles trying to overrun your team.
Similar, you may use a wooden plank to construct a bridge to a health recharging station on a building nearby to give your team a tactical advantage. By discovering small secrets like these, you can help your team and gain experience even if you're not the best frontline-fighter.

On to the background story:

Futurewar is set in a dark, post-apocalyptic future. In decaying world, the Children of War, the generations that survived World War 4, continue fighting. They fight for the sake of fighting, because war is their religion, and because there's nothing else left in the world. However, some are trying to save mankind - the Historians, scientists hideing in the decaying remains of the large cities, tonly know one goal: to undo the fatal war that had started it all by researching a time machine. But in the end, they are forced to move out of their hideouts... the time machine almost finished, they now need to get the power necessary to activate it...

Futurewar is the fight between the Children of War who want to change time to create an ethernal, never ending war because war and fightingt is the only way of living they know, while the Historians struggle to undo history and stop the fatal world war from happening at all...

But really, the background story isn't important - it's supposed to be a fun multiplayer gaming experience, easy to pick up, with large maps offering many possibilities and secrets for action-rich dynamic team battles.
