FXAA is a frame-wide anti-aliasing, basically each pixel of the frame blurs into the others to try to help reduce and blend away "jaggies" some. EG: the starting line frame shows a jagged edge at 720p resolution. The best way to get rid of jagged edges is to increase screen resolution. (Higher resolution = more pixels to smooth out rendering of angles and such). But, anti-aliasing will sample pixels around a pixel to blend them some to try to help smooth out the jaggies, and can be useful at lower resolutions. Anti-aliasing is also good when playing on a couch & TV setup, as it helps smooth the frames to look more TV / movie-like. In the image above, you'll notice the trees on the horizon smudge together slightly, the starting line jaggies blur a bit.. FXAA tries, but it's not a miracle worker.
