The render below shows (from left to right) the D-day "Cricket" clicker, made by Knoffhoff, the AN-M8 smoke grenade, made by Toddel, the M1917 Revolver, made by K96, a set of Composition B explosives, by Seth Soldier and the US Carlisle Dressing, also made by Knoffhoff.
The "Cricket" clicker was a small device given to US paratroopers on D-day, to be used as a means of identification. If you bumped into someone in the dark, you would click your cricket once and if the other person was also a paratrooper he would respond by giving two clicks. The crickets were only used on D-day.
The M1917 Revolver was developed during the First World War to supplement the M1911 Pistol, but although they remained in use during the Second World War and indeed also the Korean War they were generally only issued to secondary troops. About 300,000 of them were produced between 1917 and 1920.
That's all for this week, but be sure to come back next time for another update. Until then, feel free to visit our IRC channel and our public forums to discuss this update and other news.
Nice work.. love the cricket, compB, smoke nade, dressing and revolver.. beautiful all round...
what purpose the cricket clicker be?
Say there's a very large D-Day map and you're a paratrooper. You can't see a friendlies name from long range. So when you see they're dark outline you give a click from it. Within a second or two if you hear no click then you aim and fire.
The 'Crickets' were actually first a child's toy as well.
Very nice stuff. Cricket seems cool, i guess then they'll be night time airborne maps, im interested to see how useful it will be.
The German players will certainly be listening for that click click click as well... ;)
Ohh god this is all too much... I cant wait to play
