The first release of Field Intensity.
Extract the archive into your Half-Life folder, restart Steam, search for Half-Life: Field Intensity in your Library, start and enjoy!
Our main supported platform is Steam release of Half-Life (Windows and Linux. macOS is not supported).
Secondary supported engines: Xash3D-FWGS (Windows and Linux. Android is not supported yet) and WON version of Half-Life.
If you report bugs or crashes, please specify your operating system and the engine that you played on.
NOTE: If you have some textures missing, check the value of r_wadtextures cvar. It must be set to 0.
NOTE: We haven't tested Field Intensity on the original Xash3D engine! There's a known crash related to the menu background, but there's also a known workaround for it. If you still want to try Field Intensity on the original Xash3D engine, you need to remove or rename the following files from field_intensity directory:
- resource/backgroud (the directory)
- resource/BackgroundLayout.txt
- resource/BackgroundLoadingLayout.txt
Currently we're not interested in supporting the original Xash3D engine though, so we might not help if you face other problems.

For some odd reason, I have a lot of missing textures in-game and the hud is massive. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem.

What engine do you play on? Is it Steam release of Half-Life?
Yeah, Steam release. Not won or anything. Not Xash either.
You probably have r_wadtextures set to 1 (not sure why you have it, I think it's a dev command). Set to 0 and restart the map.
Also about hud. You can type in console:
hud_auto_scale 0
hud_scale 1
Unfortunately, on Linux, I am having severe problems running the mod. Not only is it, for some reason, not compatible with XASH 3D, but it also once the intros videos have ended, XASH 3D crashes me to the desktop, in addition to breaking Linux until I restart the whole computer.
I sadly could not run it on the Steam version of Half-Life either, because on Linux, Half-Life has its Lion share of issues, like NPCs dying for no reason other than ending scripted sequences for example. I wish Valve could have known of this from the start.
The linux version is built using steam runtime chroot made specifically to build software compatible with Steam environment. I actually developed and tested the mod on Linux, and it definetely work, at least on distros like Debian and Ubuntu. We also had one tester on Linux. As for Xash3D - there're a lot versions of it, and we can't provide support for every version. The only video-related issue I had on Xash3D by FWGS (both older 0.19 engine and the current one) is a problem with vbo rendering that can be fixed by setting r_vbo cvar to 0. Can you specify what version of xash3d you're using and whether other mods work for you?
For XASH 3D, its basically, v0.99, build 4344. Pretty much the latest version.
Do you mean the original windows-only version?
We did not test the mod on the original Xash3D engine, but there's a workaround to get it start at least. You can find another message branch about that below on this page, with Riccardoman.

It's a masterpiece! I tought it would be just a opposing force mod but it's clearly more than that. You brought a feeling to that mod, it's impressive.
This mod is already in the hall of fame like They Hunger, POV, Azure Sheep, Echoes, Residual Point,...
You brought a feeling and a great energy that I can feel it. You brought new features but also you continue the work of Gearbox & Valve.

Will the source maps going to be released?
We don't have such plans currently. We may release some parts later.
Do it when time comes, it will help future mapper and me i like the level design very very much.

I'm getting "assert failed at xash3d\src_main\engine\client\gl_image.c:36" after the logo screen on Xash3D Engine v0.99, build 4344 (Windows 10)
Try it on Xash FWGS. Original Xash wasn't tested.
I suspect that the problem is with backgrond image. You may remove or rename the following files from field_intensity directory and see if it helps: resource/backgroud (the directory), resource/BackgroundLayout.txt and BackgroundLoadingLayout.txt
Note that even if that does help, we still can't guarantee that you won't face any other critical bugs. We've partially tested the mod on Xash3D-FWGS, but not on the original Xash3D engine.

Not getting any reference to a Field_Intensity folder in my Steam Library after I quit and reloaded the Steam app in Windows 11.
I put the field_intensity folder into D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life
.
It should appear under the name "Half-Life: Field Intensity" in your Steam library. Another way is to make a desktop shortcut to hl.exe and add this to the launch options: -game field_intensity
I discovered the problem.
I didn't have Half-Life actually installed. (Been a while since I last played it). If the instructions had only mentioned this.....

Played aroun 2 hours on Linux Mint, everything is perfect till now.
Once i got stuck between couch and metal box in a room with many slotmachines/playroom, where you need to take this metal box with you.
Came only with noclip out of there.
Thanks for reporting. During the tests we fixed a lot of places where player could stuck, but it seems we still missed a few.
Can't wait to play this, I always wanted to play as marines who got deployed there at the beggining. Where OpFor sets the story where HL storyline is almost done and you just have to escape. This will be interesting, maybe we get to fight BM personel.

I recommend playing it on Steam release of Half-Life. It should work on latest WON version too, but we did not test it so well on WON. As for future content first we're gonna make an update to Field Intensity with bug fixes and other improvements.

Okay, so I guess you answered my question. I have the original CD's from back when the game first came out. OG player. I only bought the source version of Half-Life and Black Mesa. If I want to play this I'll have to buy the original game.
HL & HL:S are 2 different games. Their mods can't be compatible.

You mean the first elevator you take in the game? Try jump on the ladder from further distance.

I am at the spot where my companion cuts through a security door and he dies everytime he starts to kick it in, which kicks me out of the game and says Oldfield subject failed to utilize human assets". I can't continue after that.
Maybe he got enough damage during the script to die after? Try to reload from the save before he gets any damage.
Yep, thanks, loading an earlier save took care of it. I didn't consider that because he gets out of the elevator and directly cuts open the door. He doesn't experience any damage between that time.
Is this where the blinding white light comes in? As soon as the light clears, rush downstairs into the portal. It took forever to figure this out.
