Fallout: New California adds an all new story around a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic's Cajon Pass. An unofficial prequel to New Vegas, FPB adds hours of new gameplay and a fully voiced stand alone campaign.

Just a quick weekly Development Journal showing off two of our new world spaces and their Work in Progress.

This week, we have 2 new images, both of which are pretty exciting, and show off our overall vision for Project Brazil.

First up, we have our explorable world space Black Bear Mountain.

I made these as concept art for our development team to work towards. It isn't accurate to the in-game map, but it provides a real world view for our team to use. Part of our mission statement is to create a realistic atmosphere that conforms to the look and feel of true geology, erosion and urban development, letting the player make decisions and assessments based on how the terrain would impact their actions in real life. The colours and looks resemble Fallout 1 & 2 much closer than the current games do, which was covered in this journal:

Moddb.com

You can see a high resolution copy of this map in our image gallery with text showing locations around the area.

Black Bear mountain is about *45 km across at 1/3rd scale, just as tall, which in game terms, it takes about 35 minutes to navigate from end to end at a running pace. For those interested, this is based on the San Bernadino Valley in California.

We currently have mapped out everything from Vault 18 to the outskirts of where Union City will be, up to the Athen-Tec Mine, which looks kind of like this if you look at the height map:

As you can tell, this is about 65% complete. We're currently struggling with getting the worldspace ported to Fallout New Vegas, which has turned into a bigger spot of trouble than any of us thought it would be. Some people, like Yossarian22 of Claw Peak & the Global Travel System Mod had no trouble porting their map over, but the size and assets used in ours have made it a little more complicated.

I need the building assets from New Vegas to make Union city have the old west trailer & mobile home park feeling that I want, as well as for the Timbermill & Survivalist camp.

If all else fails, we can continue developing for FO3+DLC, and use "A Requiem for the Capital Wasteland" to link FO3 to New Vegas if you have BOTH games. It sacrifices a HUGE portion of our potential audience however, which I prefer not to do, and I won't be able to use assets from New Vegas legally in FO3. That route would allow us to have the mod in both FO3 and New Vegas, covering both demographics and the perks of either game, but EULAs and laws say otherwise.

I'll figure it out. :)

The next area is Venice Beach and Santa Monica in Los Angeles. You can see the sand dunes moving over the destroyed city, filling the craters left behind by the Great War. While a huge portion of the Los Angeles area has been covered in sand dunes and dust from the past 200 years, recent storms have cleared the coastline and exposed the decaying beachfront neighbourhoods.

The towers of the Boneyards still rise high above the sand and dominate parts of the city left uncovered. The smoke from camp fires and burning gas vents can be seen blotting the skies.

This area is currently under a lot of redevelopment to make it feel more realistic and playable. It looks great though!

Again, there is a hi-res copy in our image gallery with some location tags.

That wraps up this week's Development Journal! Track our mod to follow us, and click the animated signatures below to like us on Facebook!

Cheerss!

Good to hear that progress is ongoing! How about some more in game shots? Those you have generously provided already really raised interest in this project. Regarding porting to NV..is it really worth the effort? Certainly it has some more features, but the effort to to the port seems to have nearly taken the life out of the project. Or so it seemed...

Totally worth it. :) The houses and trailers, bulldozers, mining gear, trucks, lorries, and many other models, gameplay tweaks and script optimizations for companions & NPCs fit the Project Brazil ledger much better than FO3. Plus, with Dynavision + Cinematec, you can expect a far more engaging and immersing atmosphere. :) I'll post in game shots in a little while. ^^
