I like to announce EVE: RTS (work name) It's a mod about EVE Online developed by myself, featuring ships and other objects directly from the original Game. Models and Textures were extracted using TriExporter. CCP confirmed that I can use their Artwork. (see end of summary)

I tried this out . . . I don't know if it will be in the release.

For a small amount of ships it will work with no Problem.

But at 2 Players each with 200+ Ships it will decrease FPS.

FPS without the effect: canstant 60
FPS with the effect: ~20-45
I got a really constant 25-30 if I had about 50 ships on the screen with effect. So we have ~50(ships)*3(Engines)*25(sub Effects per second)=3750 single Effects called / second

I need to identify the Stations that can be used for the mod.

This will mainly be the ones with easy accessible Hangars and Docking positions. It will be important because you'll mostly get your ships out of Stations now.

I did not really find a good docking port at the Hub, so it may only get in as a Background Object or some type of Megacity (regarding Income generation)

Remember in the EVE online universe ships are ejected out the bottom of some stations. It's a 3D universe after all!

love the effects look great... now is this JUST on the bigger ships or you got it on every ship type? as one way could be to put it just on the bigger capital ships?

Oh suddenly after reading you comment i got a good idea ^^ ... I let you decide wich shipclass has this effect.

I simply use it for all ships and I include a gamemode option to set wich shipclass use it (it's anyway triggered via scipt) XD. I could then also make a low performance version (got an idea how to do that over night)- selectable too.

I think this shouldd be the best way, correct? ^^

You could also do it like they did with Homeworld 2 ships: Make it some you can only see the engine effects when the camera is a certain distance from the ship, like a viewdist ratio or somethin :P It's lookin good, keep up the great work man!

The blue effects look good.
Have you thought about using different engine effects for different races? The red effect might be really fitting for the Sansha.

Hm, should not be a Problem. But I think that I will use all the same colous in the next version. Later on I can try to change, if i'm really sure it's still playable with all ships having this effect (at the moment i think it will work)

What options will there be for customisation? Visually there's nothing besides the overlay/interface to determine your ships from others'. Perhaps you could have engine exhaust colours based on player choice before a game?
