This mod catapults Empire at War into 2077. It maintains the game's design philosophy, while adding new units, better graphics, and deeper gameplay.

Since this is a very specialized siege platform, probably around 50K or so, like the Titan. You can build as many as you can afford, as with most things in the mod. However its cost is rather prohibative. It's one of those toys you don't really need, but you can build anyway, like the SSDs.

Never understood this vessel. A much smaller, better designed ship could accomplish the same goal these vessels were designed for. Does one really need that much extra internal space for those torpedo launchers?(no is the answer there) Their sole purpose was to smash planetary shields. Once again Imperial designers were over compensating. A Star Destroyer with lots of torpedo launchers in the bow could have done the same job and still have the internal storage for torpedoes. Interesting addition to the mod though. Guessing only one can be built at a time?

I think what took up a lot of stuff wasn't only the torpedo storage, but hte specialised equipment to find weakspots in planetary shields etc.

"To accomplish its primary mission, the Torpedo Sphere arrived in orbit of a target planet, and scanned the shields to determine its weak point and to locate the deflector shield generators. A hundred heavy weapon technicians[2] took several hours[3] to calibrate and coordinate the proton torpedo launchers once the weak spot had been identified, and fired the salvo at a target of no more than six square meters to open a hole in the shield. The hole was, in actuality, a power surge that barely lasted for a few microseconds, and the turbolaser batteries fired through the hole to destroy the planet's shield generators. If the turbolasers failed to fire in time to take advantage of the shield weakness, the entire process had to be started over. The hardest part of the Torpedo Sphere's mission was to determine the location of the target planet's shield generators. On board sensors were unable to penetrate the shield to locate the shield generators on the surface; as such, technicians aboard the Sphere analyzed the shield's power waves to determine where the power was entering the shield from to determine the location of the generating source.[2] At least two Loronar DS-13 projector deflector shield generators were employed to shield the vessel."

it's basically a highly specialised siege weapon, and i have the feeling that an ISD actualyl wouldn't have been be able to do it the same way, aside maybe if they scrapped the hangar and placed a similiar arrangement there. Planetary shields in SW are cabaple of withstanding a lot of punishment. Otherwise Death Squadron could've simply bombed it's way through the Hoth Shield.

I guess to even get to a decent amount of bow mounted torpedo launchers for this job, the ISD would have to be cut-off somewhere before the normal bow. or maybe go Conqueror...

And it could be that the Torpedosphere uses bigger and heavier Proton Torpedoes than the usual ISD carries

I wonder how well a couple of these could do against an SSD?

the torpedo sphere isn't well designed for ship-to-ship combat anyway. It was used much more often to crack planetary shields, and that's why it had a small number of turbolasers(to fire at the shield generator once the torpedoes had opened a hole in the shield large enough to fire through)

While very powerful, i always thought the tp sphere was a massive waste of space.

Great work, as always, cant really say that for the original concept.

Description

Armed with an ungodly, absolutely not-needed amount of torpedos that it fires in ungodly volleys, for ungodly amounts of damage, the torpedo sphere will be capable of one-shotting everything under an mc 80 winged with a single volley of splash damage torpedoes.

It comes equipped with a giga battery of proton torpedoes, 8 hangars, a few token turbolasers, and targetable engines. The torpedo sphere didn't originally have hangars, but I felt a design like this would be ideal for having a few additional hangars so I put them in there.

Ingame the torpedo sphere will be a 2 km-ish long-range siege platform ideal for cracking non-moving targets wide open. Very useful against starbases and large capital ships. It's slow to move and rotate, and its only real defence is its long range, if an enemy ship gets to its side it'll have nothing to defend itself aside from its fighter and bomber garrison.

A sitting duck with an artillery cannon. Enjoy.

Model by me.
