When Gandalf receives the One Ring, he will either fail to master it and become an agent of Darkness or manage to use it for good depending on whether he is the Grey or the White. Saruman, on the other hand, will randomly either fall into depravity and become Saruman the Cursed or succumb to his delusions of grandeur and style himself Saruman the Blessed.
