Around November, 2004, several students got together to brainstorm a concept for a total conversion of Valve's Half-Life 2 . After several days of brainstorming, the concept for Eclipse was born. In January of 2005, a group of Guildhall students composed of programmers, artists, and level designers were put together and formed what is now CelTech Studios. It was then that CelTech Studios made the commitment to produce the highest quality game possible in the short amount of time they had - five months. What emerged in late May was a game that is both stunningly beautiful and addictive to play.

Eclipse is a third-person total conversion of Valve's Half-Life 2 . It is an action adventure that features tactical, puzzle based combat, which forces the player to interact with the surrounding environment in order to survive. You play as a young Sorceress named Violet who has learned the secrets of Telekinesis. This allows Violet to easily find objects in the environment that she can pick up and throw. Once the player gets used to picking up objects and throwing them at targets, the movement of Violet becomes very important. Based on where an enemy is Violet might want to pick up one or more objects and then move about in order to get a good angle on her enemy before sending the objects flying in that direction.

As you journey through the different lands of Eclipse , you will uncover many secrets that will help you in defeating your enemies. You will also be able to unlock new abilities that Violet can use, such as Hellstorm - a powerful spell that allows Violet to summon up to three fiery orbs that explode upon impact and deal significant damage to nearby enemies.

Use Violet's power of Telekinesis to help protect you as you journey over distant lands in search of the ancient teleportation device near the Standing Stones. Battle your way through hordes of orc-like creatures known as Keepers as you make your way through the enchanted Blackmoor forest. Find Violet's ancestral burial grounds in the Barrow and unlock dark secrets that will aid you in your final stand at the Standing Stones.

After finishing the game you can unlock the Survival Mode mini-game. This allows you to test your skills with Hellstorm as you battle against wave after wave of enemies. Compare your stats with friends to see who really has what it takes to survive the Standing Stones - Survival Mode.

In hindsight, this article should have been written sooner. Years sooner, that is. Better now to write this and get this out of the way. This is a look back from one of the individuals who worked on Eclipse. A little bit of history and story which will explain and answer some of the most pressing questions which are repeated in comments on the game.

Six years ago, a group of three level designers sat down and hashed out the concept for a dark gothic fantasy game. This concept would be proposed to the second Guildhall Cohort as a whole and would be selected with a multiplayer concept. One of the stated as requirements for this project going in was the game would be in third person. All of the previous projects had been first person only. Another requirement was that these two games would utilize the Source engine. Half-Life 2 had just been released. Six Month later Valve would announce that Gabe would be speaking at graduation at the Guildhall. And "Oh by the way", there were links that showed off the two projects that had been in development. This is how the world came to know the existence of Eclipse. Two weeks later, the game would b e released. The Guildhall web server would crash under the weight of the world yelling "must want now!" This was the show of games at the Guildhall. This would be a day before this cohort of students would would graduate from the Guildhall. It would be the last day on which as a group would any work on Eclipse be done. Indeed, a few of us would take up a few fixes here or there. These were drop in the buckets of what had come before. When the show of games came, Eclipse was finished.

Over the past five plus years, you have showered us with accolades. Some of which I can only understand what is being said by the use of bablefish. We are ultimately grateful for it. Your acclaim has put halos on our heads and launched our careers. We work for major studios. We've worked on major titles. Somehow along the way through this fallout of controlled chaos, we started up some new studios and created new games which you love to eat up. And this is why Eclipse has not been updated in years and why Eclipse will never be updated ever again. For the "Never say Never" diehards in the boarder lands, I am sorry to disappoint you. We have all moved on.

Till after all of that, two facts is still true today:
1) There's a secret journal page hidden in the crypt where the Hellstorm ability is obtained.
2) Our pumpkin models are still better than the ones found in Episode two!

I doubt I'll get an answer to this, seeing as this mod is from 2006 and no one has left a comment here in 3 years... but here goes.

I was able to run this game before on my system. I recently installed it to play it again and I only get a black screen upon launching it. Upon getting the black screen, it seems like a hard crash. The busy light on my computer ticks really fast, but I'm unable to force quit with Alt+F4 and can't bring up Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Del.

Running Win7 64-bit. Any help would be great... if anyone's listening :)

I've read up a bit on SteamPipe fixes in the gameinf.txt file. Everything looks sound and it should run. Not sure what the problem is.

Oh and it's v1.02 Updated I have installed.

Found a fix. After Steam updated their client a few years back, they incorporated something called SteamPipe which changed the way the gameinfo.txt works with all their games. I uploaded the gameinfo.txt to MediaFire.

Mediafire.com

Download this and move the 'gameinfo.txt' file to:
'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\Eclipse'

I haven't figured out how to get the intro video to work, but you can just skip that and play the mod :)
