Pretty solid mod in my opinion, platforming feel nice, levels are beautiful and challenging, and overall aesthetics of a a SMW is translated pretty well.
Tho what saddens me is poor mod compatibility, which means if you run it with anything other than palette swaps it isn't going to work, or going to work properly, and that on higher difficulty levels every enemy pretty much turns into minigun wielding high on coffee chipmunks.
Solid 8.

Truly the best mash-up of Mario and Doom I've ever seen. This is why I love Doom modding.

This was worth 3 years of work, not like some people, who are not members of the Doom community understand, but here's the list of things, why this mod deserves better ratings:
*Levels are varied, some having their own gimmicks
*New enemies show up, inspired by the Mario Series, while still fiting with the original cast of Doom Monsters we know and love
*There are shops, which can give you ammo, or upgrade your weapon, if you collect enough Big Coins from the levels.
*Bosses are progressive and get harder each time, when you deal enough damage to them, so it's not simple circle-strafing and you win.
*It has a lot of references to other Doom mods and also has a "Wall Of Fame" for the "patreons" who helped give this mod attention through it's three year developement cycle.
*Made by the same guy, who made Castlevania: Simon's Destiny.
*You want to save your bunny, don't you?
If you hate this, then you have no knowlegde about the legacy of this and have no taste. If you want something, that blends elements of Doom and Mario well, play this and the first one, which might not be the same quality as this, but it is definitely close.

This might just be the best Doom mod I've ever played! It's so vibrant and fun, and really polished and solid too. The Super Mario World style is very appealing and this mod is seriously just a blast. I'd even pay money for this mod if I had to.

I had a good time for the most part, but there were a few hiccups peppered around in the campaign.

Mirror mountain and demon den has some jumps that are very tricky to pull off unless you are using a strafe-jump.
Sometimes light sources would begin flickering madly on and off, the ones I remember where the braziers in hell's overworld and in the boxroom in the cave UAC level, the one with the elevator.
Some big coins were head scratchers while others felt like they were just handed to you and personally I felt a little let down after the thing was over as I had just gained a powerful upgrade from the last shop which I only used for like five levels before the game was truly over.

Would have loved a sort of new game plus letting you use all the upgrades from the start. An array of more interesting usable items and perhaps some way to tweak the platforming difficulty would also have been welcome.

Now that I got all the negative out the way, let me start heaping on the praise.

Golden souls 2 has a very pick up and play quality. You got 30 minutes? Go complete a level. Though it is less suited for longer sessions.
Many levels are amazing, presenting unique challenges or visuals, but some levels lack behind, many ghost houses, cave levels, underwater focused levels and castles come to mind. Special shout-outs to the level in the mountains that has a cowboy town and the level in the third world with the lighthouse.

Enemy wise I was surprised from the first level with a clever plant enemy that takes more damage when you hit it while it is attacking. Ranged enemies like shy-cultists were always a treat, OMG why did you make a super revenant?!, other enemies being repurposed like the hammer throwing hell knights or the pain elemental becoming a demon hedgehog spawner like lakitu were also nice surprises, for all that is holy why did you make a super revenant, it lobs like twenty missiles at you with each shot, what were you thinking?!, even diverse underwater enemies aplenty, needless to say a neat mix of old, new and remixed enemies.
The large array of varied bosses were a treat, though some were definitely a larger threat than others. That poor boss from world three where less a threat than the first boss.
Likewise you might want to tweak the first boss of the final three, he killed me more times than the last two combined.

Upgrades were always exciting to get except the aforementioned last one, but it was hard at times telling what had actually improved and some things I wished would change with an upgrade didn't, like the self damage from the music gun.

Secrets are sown generously across every level, had to look up a guide to find it all, some of it is really well hidden and the myriad of references to other mods where just awesome and had me laughing at times.

As I said, overall I had a really good time 9/10.

Golden Souls 1 was so much fun to play through coop. My girlfriend and I played through it and enjoyed every second of it. I finally got the game to work through GZDoom and hosting a coop match for the mod so she and I could play without spawning inside one another every time we went to a new "World" which eventually caused crashing.

Golden souls 2 takes the first ones ideas to a whole new level! I was stunned by the level designs and atmosphere as well as the vast enemy roster and different objectives and soo much more! It truly is an astonishing sight to see. The hub world is just like that in Super Mario Bros 3 and Super mario world where its in first person rather than top down. It truly felt like Doom was capable of adapting to the Nintendo Style of the Snes days and made me believe that the doom engine with the tools can literally do anything at this point!. You could even make a Mario kart game on the doom engine and it would work! I'm surprised honestly that it hasn't been done.

Anyways. I love this mod so much! The variety of levels and Easter eggs to be found on every map! Along with the design and passion in every single thing you see. It creates a world of Exploration, Completion to 100% like Super Mario and Metroid and being rewarded for it. Platforming that is tight and feels perfect and fair with challenges as if you are controlling Mario himself along with Doom Guys speed. And of course to wrap it all up in a perfect final word of gameplay this game has ..... is ..... DOOM!

This is the best experience I've had playing a mod of any kind and probably my favorite "game" of 2018.

Pros: Variety of levels. A lot of big levels. Many new monsters. Nostalgia overload. A perfect fusion of Doom and Mario (and some other classic Nintendo games)

Cons: Some of the jumps are a pain in the ***. Very hard and unfair. Save before you jump. It wasn't bad enough to ruin my fun, but they were too annoying.
