Call of The Zone is a standalone modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – Call of Pripyat that allows you to explore the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone – a desolate and highly contaminated region of Ukraine that has been abandoned and closed off for decades ever since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. What has been going on in this irradiated wasteland since then? There are no shortage of rumors and conspiracy theories, each more fantastic than the last. Rumors of mutated wildlife, brainwashed cults, secret experiments, and unexplainable paranormal events abound, as do promises of great riches and wildest dreams coming true for those who are daring or desperate enough to try to break through the cordon. You are about to find out for yourself what is true and what is yet undiscovered, and experience for yourself all the Zone has to offer... or to take from you.

I've had this problem from the beginning (also with CoC from what I remember); I guess the engine is not exactly easy on the CPU and I got a pretty old machine, so no surprise there.

I recognized this stuttering problem is mainly triggered by anomalies going nuts (like, when a dead body is caught inside and they blow out all the time, it slows down the entire map), and especially in the agroprom underground (there's something down there that completely overloads the hardware, even after I managed to kill everything that moves in a 3 frames per second killing spree, lol, so no idea what it could be), which is so slow it's close to being unplayable.

Is there any graphic setting specific to anomaly animations that I could turn down a bit to avoid this? I played this game in all DX-versions without significant differences on the general performance, but the anomaly issue is always there...

You could try the -nodistort launch option, that's a huge fps tank for my humble system. Basically it removes the blurry effect from gravity anomalies, fire, etc. Another one that could help a lot is -noshadows, which just removes all shadows from the game.

If these two don't make much of a difference for you, there's something else going on here.

EDIT: if you use the -nodistort launch option, you may want to install this addon to restore the anomaly detector beeps. Without distortion the gravity anomalies are very hard to see.

It's not stupid. It's advanced.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately those didn't help much, didn't see a significant difference...
