Call of The Zone is a standalone modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – Call of Pripyat that allows you to explore the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone – a desolate and highly contaminated region of Ukraine that has been abandoned and closed off for decades ever since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. What has been going on in this irradiated wasteland since then? There are no shortage of rumors and conspiracy theories, each more fantastic than the last. Rumors of mutated wildlife, brainwashed cults, secret experiments, and unexplainable paranormal events abound, as do promises of great riches and wildest dreams coming true for those who are daring or desperate enough to try to break through the cordon. You are about to find out for yourself what is true and what is yet undiscovered, and experience for yourself all the Zone has to offer... or to take from you.

Hey peeps. Here's a short list of handy keyboard shortcuts and tricks to help keep your time in menus minimal. They might save your life. Or make it slightly more convenient. Either is good.

  • Use the F-key to exit menus like dialogues and inventories. It's faster, your hand is already there and you don't pull up the main menu by mistake like mashing Esc does.
  • Use the Sprint key to take all from inventories. Yes, you will pick up your whole super-secret hoarder stash a few times and hate yourself for it, but it saves so much time on the whole that it's worth it.
  • Use the Sprint key to open the Trade or Repair / Upgrade window from dialogue. (I nearly removed that whole button in my Black Bevels GUI because I figured nobody used it anymore)
  • Use the number keys to go through dialogue.
  • Space and Enter both confirm Yes / No questions, like leaving an area. Saves a ton of time when you're repairing or upgrading equipment in batches.

Next up, saving and loading games. CotZ has quick-save slots, which is great, but sometimes you just want to make a quick hard save. You could go through menus, but WHO HAS TIME FOR MENUS.

!! IMPORTANT NOTICE !!

The following commands do NOT ask for confirmation. Done is done.

!! END OF NOTICE !!

  • Press the ~ (tilde) key next to the 1 to bring up the console (why do we say 'bring up the console' when it clearly comes down? discuss.)
  • Type "save 1" and hit enter. You have made a new save game titled "1". Press ~ again to leave the console. Type the same command again to overwrite that save game.
  • You can also load games by typing "load 1" and so forth.
  • The console will actually auto-complete save game titles; use the arrow keys to select a title, hit Enter to select the highlighted suggestion, and press Enter again to confirm.
  • Type "quit" in the console to immediately close the game. I call this the "wanker's reflex" command. Don't ask.

As an aside, if you enjoy information overload type "rs_stats on" in the console to see how X-Ray is doing. (it's doing super, thanks for asking) - type "rs_stats off" to have your sanity restored.

That's all I can think of right now. There's probably a bunch more that I do without being aware of it, after playing these games for all these years.

Please contribute if you have tips to share. I'm always on the lookout for quality of life tricks like these. Makes me feel like I know what I'm doing.
