Basic Objective Path:
To start off, the game is not yet out nor do we have much information about it. All of the content below is subject to change and may have to be rethought out, eliminated, or modified once Half Life Two hits the shelves. The ideas are vague and must be until we understand how Half-Life Two ticks. Any comments would be readily appreciated…

Basic concept:
This modification WILL be multiplayer; I want to create an environment in which the players may mold the situation from their actions. Basically, I want to give the players as much freedom as possible. How much freedom will they receive? Player freedom will depend on the game; hopefully it will be an extensive amount. This will require a large and highly skilled team, I have already begun searching out the best modders I can find. I also hope to add a saving system so the player can keep the things he completed in the game…

Setting and Theme:
The maps will be some nice sized cities, don’t want anything too big as it would cause much lag. Most of the buildings will be low poly, hopefully I can find some moderate modelers to take care of that (I want to reserve the best for characters and vehicles). The theme is a modern day street mod with three principles: cars, crimes, and cops.

Cars: Street racing is one of the aspects of my idea. The mod is meant to be somewhat of a GTA style… just without the grand theft auto. Money is something to be spent, so why not spend it on cars and parts? It adds a whole new level to the game play. Instead of stealing the best car you can and winning a race because of it, you must get the money to do so. If it is possible I would like to add a method of changing car parts, it would probably not be too in depth but something that would add more customization. Probably not something for a first release.

Crimes: Can’t have a street mod without illegal activity. There seems to be some allure to the idea of defying authority. We will require a disclaimer, something like: “THIS IS A GAME! Don’t be a moron, crimes are not good in reality. We are not responsible for any illegal activity done by a player and condemn the idea of committing crimes.” When a society has to put “Do not attempt to stop chain with hand or genitals” on a chainsaw, you must know that there will be someone who just doesn’t get it. The crime aspect will be dealt with in a user custom fashion. In the mod I intend to allow the player to create and join gangs. Different ranks within the gangs will unlock certain mission types (Dependent on rank) to give to lower ranking gang members. Perhaps we can handle this with a series of menus. The menus MUST look professional, I happen to be very good at such arts, anything from color to shape to opacity effects the visual sub-conscious.

Cops: Ah, yes. Running from the authorities, can’t commit a crime without alarming the authorities. Some type of system will have to be implemented in order to get cops to chase the player who has done something criminal. Perhaps the police could travel directly from the station. If it is multiplayer, the whole level will be loaded at all times, although that could depend on the engine. We’ll have to figure this one out when more is know about HL2.

Characters: Hopefully we will be able to implement a system of character customization, so you can tell each other apart. Another thing that I was hoping for was to make the voice communication come from the player. The mouth could move instead of it being a magical taking rectangle on the side of your screen.

Money: So you have $300,000 in a game like GTA… and nothing to spend it one… Items should something useful or valuable. Perhaps things like drugs (to sell), bombs, lock picks, tools for hotwiring a car (make it MUCH more difficult to steal cars than pressing the get in button), ect. A full list will be made when HL2 is out or information is released.

Weapons: Pretty self-explanatory. The only way to obtain them would be to steal them from a fallen victim, be given one by another player, or buy one. Again, it’s another thing to do with your money.

Gangs: A crucial part of the mod will be the gangs, this section explains what I HOPE can be done. It begins by a player starting a gang. Then he/she recruits people (maybe even have AI people as guards to fill in when player count is low), now he/she has some sort of power. Buying or extorting structures will allow you to gain territory or expand you financial resources. The leader must also pay his gang, so the more money you can pay to your members the less likely they will be to rebel. Perhaps there should be a “minimum wage” so you can cheat people out of their pay.

Racing: Hopefully it will be a simple system of getting a few players together and then creating a couple waypoints. Entities will be the co

Well i think for extensive freedom you should maybe make theft possible and you would need a weapon to protect ureslef from robbers as far as cars go.
