FAQ

How to I run the game?

Run the exe, or the sh script if you're in Mac or Linux.

I already have QZDoom installed elsewhere, do I still need the standalone version?

Take the contents of the pwads folder into your installation folder and discard everything else, and launch PSXDOOMX.PK3 or DOOM64X.PK3 through the command line or by dragging and dropping it into your exe. Be aware that only QZDoom 2.0.0 and above are supported.

How do I play multiplayer like coop or deathmatch?

Check the ZDoom wiki to see which command line parameters must be entered.

In Doom 64, where are the Bonus Fun Maps?

You must first find and beat Hectic through its secret exit. Then the option will be unlocked.

How to start multiplayer games

Starting a mod Tutorial

This mod supports cooperative/deathmatch games up to four players. However, to access multiplayer mode you must launch the mod through the command line.

This tutorial will cover hosting and joining games in a Local Area Network. If you want to do it over Internet, you will need to use your public IP and ensure that you have the respective ports/firewall rules enabled.

For more information, see the ZDoom wiki.

Hosting a game

Windows:

Press Windows+R and write cmd in the prompt. This will open the Windows command line prompt. There, write ipconfig and press Enter. A lot of information will be printed. Look up your internet adapter (Ethernet of WiFi, depending on how you connect) and copy the IPv4 field (may look something like 192.168.x.x).

Once you know your IP address, navigate to the directory where the mod is using the command line (cd [PATH_TO_MOD]). There, enter the following command (change psxdoom for doom64 depending on which mod you are using):

psxdoom.bat -host [NUM_PLAYERS] -[GAMETYPE] -skill [SKILL_LEVEL]

Where:
[NUM_PLAYERS] is the number of players, from 1 to 4.
[GAMETYPE] can be cooperative or deathmatch.
[SKILL_LEVEL] is the difficulty, from 1 to 6.

For example:
psxdoom.bat -host 2 -mode cooperative -skill 3
This command host a cooperative game for two players in Hurt Me Plenty difficulty.

Mac/Linux:

Open your favorite Terminal emulator. There, write ifconfig and press Enter. A lot of information will be printed. Look up your internet adapter (Ethernet or WiFi, depending on how you connect) and copy the inet field (may look something like 192.168.x.x).

sh psxdoom.sh -host - -skill

Where:
[NUM_PLAYERS] is the number of players, from 1 to 4.
[GAMETYPE] can be cooperative or deathmatch.
[SKILL_LEVEL] is the difficulty, from 1 to 6.

For example:
psxdoom.sh -host 2 -mode cooperative -skill 3
This command host a cooperative game for two players in Hurt Me Plenty difficulty.

Joining a game

You must know the IP address of the host.

Windows:

psxdoom.bat -join [HOST_IP]

Where:
[HOST_IP] is the IP address of the computer hosting the multiplayer game.

For example:
psxdoom.bat -join 192.168.1.10
This command will join the game being hosted at 192.168.1.10.

Mac/Linux:

Open you terminal emulator. Then, navigate to the directory where the mod is using the command line (cd [PATH_TO_MOD]).

Once you're there, write (change psxdoom for doom64 depending on which mod you are playing):

is the IP address of the computer hosting the multiplayer game.

For example:

Getting almost constant stutter from both... I have lots of other Doom mods, even one using Hoover's ultra high resolution textures that run smooth. I have tried lowering resolution, switching various things, but nothing makes any difference to the stuttering. I have a PC that can max out GTA 5 on 4k, so my PC is certainly up to the job, I was hoping you might be able to give some hints for a possible solution? Anyway, apart from that this is awesome, love these mods :)

That's odd because I have a GTX 980 and half your RAM and it runs fine.

You could go into Advanced > Display Options > OpenGL Settings and disable Multisampling, Bloom, Ambient Occlusion, FXAA to see how it goes... also try going into Texture Options and remove any texture or anisotropic filtering. Turning off light shadowmaps in Dynamic Light options could also help.

I know the title isn't the best. Out of curiosity, what did you think this was about? I think it sounds like it enhances the actual console games rather than the total conversions...
