The Past Ain't What It Used To Be... The first Command & Conquer received its last official update on the 21st of June, 1996. Since then, the game has been ported to Windows (as "Gold" version), and re-released in the big "The First Decade" collection pack, but has never received any more bug fixes. The C&C Gold Patch 1.06 project aims to bring this classic into the new millennium, by fixing the old bugs, supporting higher resolutions, and adding new modding and mapping possibilities. It also contains an addon-based language system, allowing anyone to create translation packs for the game.
Just for fun... me playing Funpark mission #4 in 1920x1080. This is pretty much Supreme Commander Meets C&C95.
The revealed map is a debug option triggered by typing a cheat code ingame ;)
The game had some serious lag issues at this resolution, too... probably all the trees. C&C never handled those well, and the dinosaur missions are full of them.
Good lord, the infantry might as well be little pebbles armed with black sticks...
If you think THAT's a problem, check out the power bar, and then realize the entire black part under the sidebar is actually completely valid (but not drawn) power bar too ;)
Mid you, with my monitor size I can comfortably play on that resolution... well I could it the game wouldn't lag like hell. C&C doesn't handle big amounts of trees very well -_-
Doesn't appear to work very well with some of the higher custom resolutions,if you made an infantry unit, consider that thing lost in the abyss, you can barely see the damn vehicles, let alone any infantry,if you just wanted to send one unit as a scout you could send an entire army
I know. This was just done as test of the engine's limits. Actually playing like that is just silly.
