City 17 is a total remake of Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 is still an amazing game but not quite modern. Our team will try to recreate atmosphere of the original game, improving the graphics, physics, balancing the gameplay and other things to create the really researched and interesting remake. Our team really need enthusiasts: mappers, texture artists, 3D modellers and animators, programmers. If You can or want to work with me, leave your resume in a comments and join our team.

So, how far is the progress on this mod so far?
So here's my 2 cents on a complete Half-Life 2 remake:
My only complaint about FakeFactory's Cinematic Mod was their character overhauls, weapons and music, which just didn't work in my opinion. MMod and SMod both do some really cool weapon and graphics enhancements but I've yet to see them do much else (plus I don't think MMod's even out yet and most of the enhancements). Enhanced, I didn't really notice much of a difference besides more graffiti and brighter images, though I will admit the shadows and underwater view were an improvement, as well as Ravenholm. And Enhanced, whilst it went through some interesting design choices, in the end it's just an extension of SMod and I don't think it really adds anything besides some texture changes and character skins, though I will say that their Chronic Aberration was far superior to the SMod version. So to sum up, I think that the only thing that can really be done with a new Half-Life 2 mod would be some new voice acting and updated character skins, which I think could easily be achieved using some HD bodies and some recreated heads courtesy of Black Mesa's Face Creation System (which is now available as part of the Black Mesa SDK). Either that or just use the HD pack. As for whether to use the original Kelly Bailey score or go come up with a whole new soundscape, I really couldn't say which to go for. If it's a total overhaul in the style of Black Mesa I guess new music would be the dome thing. So in a nutshell: unless you particularly want to do the whole thing over, you could really just use assets from any or all of the above mods (and I have checked that it's okay with them beforehand so you're good to go should you so decide) and it's just models and voices that need redoing. So if you do decide to go down that route it will save you a lot of time and effort. But like I said, it's your decision.
Hey! Did you know that you can open up the mod configurations, disable the FFCM music and weapons models? Oh! And did you know that in character pimper, you can just select the original Valve Alyx Vance?
The first time I said Enhanced, I meant Update.
Addendum #1: Half-Life: Genetic Variation has some really, really HQ models, not to mention the additions they've made are spectacular! Also I think a lot of the stuff from the defunct (not to mention aptly named) City 17: Episode One can be used, that is also really good and since it's defunct the assets are now all open source and free to use.
Fakefactory's Cinematic Mod makes the game pretty modern imo, but, go for it!
It was really HQ, sure, but did you see what they did to Alyx?

Dude just stop making this. Cause Half-Life 2 was awarded, at the 10th Video Game Awards, the "best video game of the decade". Don't need TO CHANGE IT!!!!!
so you are saying that hes jealous of HL2 of being the best game of the decade?
No, he's saying it doesn't need updating solely on the basis that it won awards. Like pretty much everything by Neil Manke.
