First off really love the mod, It's spectacualr so thanks :)

I always play as High elves and one thing I noticed right away in the mod is that as High elves I cannot recruit basic archer troops. If I go through the building tech for them I get nothing until I build The marksman archery field (which unlocks 2 Shadow warrior recruitments) and then when I build the elite archery field I lose the shadow warriors and have no ranged options at all (other than mages).

I'm assuming this isn't as intended so hence the post!

Thanks again and looking forward to the future evolution of the mod!

Hello there, i just downloaded the mod and the patch, and i have the same problem. I checked the "export_descr_buildings.txt" file and the max unit pool for the high elf archer and shadow warriors was set to 0.99, dont know if this is intended for some reason or just a bug for now i just tweaked it a bit

Same problem as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Shadow Warriors far more than the standard High Elf Archers. But, do have to watch for those nasty costs and possible limitations.

I also just installed version 1.0 and the 1.01 patch and I to can't recruit elf archers. I mean the campaign is fun and challenging with no archers but it would be nice to have some. Still a super awesome mod good work devs

I've found the solution. The problem is to be found in the export_desc_buildings file in the Data map of your mod directory. This file governs the effects of the various buildings of each faction, including (which we're interested in) the ranged barracks. In this file you can scroll down or search with ctrl+f until you get to the ranged recruitment buildings. Every building has a list of recruitable units, limited by faction. What you're looking for are these lines:


recruit_pool "High elf Archers" 1 0.25 0.99 0 requires factions { england, }

In this line, there are several elements. Firstly the designation that it is a unit recruitment pool. Then the type of unit. Then come four numbers, which are the most important. After that is the list of factions that can recruit this particular unit.

The four numbers each represent a different setting. I'm not exactly sure what the first number is for. The second, however, governs how many turns it takes for a new regiment of this unit to become recruitable. In the case of the High Elf Archer entry listed above, every turn you get 0.25 new recruitable archer units. Basically you can recruit one unit every 4 turns. The number after that, 0.99, is where our problem is. It governs the maximum size of the unit pool. Since it is 0.99, and 0.99 is smaller than 0, the size of the recruitment pool is 0. You can't recruit this unit, since the maximum recruitment pool is 0. In order to be able to recruit High Elf Archers and Shadow Warriors in the top tier archery range (they also have the 0.99 problem), you need to change the 0.99 to a value larger than 1 and save the file.
