4gb_patch Thread - Call of Warhammer: Beginning of The End Times mod for Medieval II: Total War: Kingdoms

After installing the mod at least 3 times, using the 4gb_patch every time, I still experience a lot of crashes, and there is no noticeable change after all that. And then I have read on TWcenter, that the 4gb_patch applies only for Steam, and since I am no Steam user, I am a bit confused now.

4gb_patch really doesn't work for me, because I do not use Steam? Or my crashes are not related to the patch? What does this patch do, by the way?

Please, someone help me, for I can not enjoy this great mod with all that crashes!

I use 4 gb patch both on steam and regular med ii and it workd perfectly fine for me I'm no expert at all but i suggest there may be a problem with your computer's performances maybe ?

Also i know that on the non steam version you'll probably have kingdoms and a med2 executables in your game file did you patch both of them ?

If you think that not being on steam is the troublesome part, you can also add your medieval 2 kingdoms as a game on steam by using your cd key provided that it wasn't used on another steam account previously. You would go in the "games" tab (not your library) and then click on "activate a product on steam" and then enter your game cd key to make it a steam game on your account. i hope this will help !

I used the patch on both the med2 and the kingdoms executable.

In fact, I have to types of crashing. One is, when during AI turn suddenly a ctd comes, and I get the message "Chaos has taken over, we failed to prevent the end times." The other is, when I finish a campaign battle on battle map, the loading screen comes in, it loads, and just before entering the campaign map, comes the ctd with the message "A fatal graphics error occured..."

The first I could manage, by starting the game again and loading a saved game, for this ctd never occurs twice in the same turn. It is only disturbing, but not makes the game impossibel to play.

But the other one I cannot solve. I tried to lower all of my graphic settings to minimal, I tried to delete my preferences.cfg, I tried different compatibility options, I tried to run it in 640x480 pixels, still a have it. The log does not say anything on that. All other mods run without problem.

With this ctds I cannot play campaign battles.

Some ideas?

But have you tried installing your game on a steam account in the end ?

I prefer not to have a Steam account, for it requires personal data, which I am not willing to give.

But I am sure my problem can be solved somehow without that.

Well that's up to you man. I need to point out that i'm no expert here once again but with all that you've said it really looks to me like your cpu/graphics card is to blame there, i mean it mentions "fatal graphic error" after all and my friends who play the mod and have had graphics problem solved it by doing what you said, lowering graphics that is. Is your graphics card old/up to date ? Is your pc well maintained and cleaned ?

My PC is well maintained and clean, but not the newest one., including the graphics card. But all the other M2TW mods run smooth without even lagging at highest graphics settings, and other, more "advanced" games also do. Maybe I should just wait for another patch...

No problem it's a pleasure to help if i can. Well i've read somewhere on this page from a mod creator that balances and fixes were prioritized for next patch so there will be some of that. I hope for you it will solve your problem

The exact same thing happens to me Winternet and I have tried multiple solutions. I think our best bet is to wait for the next patch.

where is the 4gb patch?
