Mars fog is argh because while incredible ambience it creates, the fogged terrain is clashing horribly with the mountains in background!

It's either:

a) remove the mountains (or move them *much* farther away OR pre-bake the fog at 80% into the mountains texture) so that only the sky is left

or

b) make the fog darker in the same hue, this diminishes the ambience (argh #2!) but makes the distant geometry feel like its in the same fog as the skybox, just not as bright because it is closer.

Case in point:

Me changing fog to color 255,145,88 for the skybox and 147,83,50 for the terrain: (see CHE07 in the latest chebskies) (looks a bit different as this uses the old eday test from Mar 27, 2018)

A quick question for Sergeant Mark IV's death messenger

Are you aiming for a movie Mars (the horrible eye-watering pink of "Total Recall", a cult classics with Schwarzenegger) or a quasi-realistic Mars (kind of boring pearly brown) ?

P.S. I think terrain foG can be made a bit brighter, to the point where the brightest at longest stretches (as the gate here) is barely darker than the fogged black of the mountains.

EDIT: Updated to 147,83,50 because 125,71,43 was too dark.

P.S. Ah, I found why: you use global scripts to set Mars fog to sector tags like 350 - which trumped my map script making me erroneously think calling these functions with tags > 255 wasn't working for some mysterious reason. Stupid me...

Its always good to remember this is not black magic, just rocket science.

-------------------------------

P.P.S Obviously needs a different approach, all I said above is wrong.

To recreate the Total Recall look (washed out bright terrain against a darker red sky) must leave the fog color alone but remake the sky to something completely different -- like scattered spires of the fog color with solid fog color underneath and the current scrolling texture. Will return to this later.
