BI Vanilla Mod v1.2

BI Vanilla Mod 1.2

Introduction

Hi all . We all hated how ugly vanilla BI looked . So one day, i decided to enhance it's looks with units from an old russian mod, Pax Barbarica . Now, with this mod, all units look cool and pretty and also it fixes various other things and enables some other things . Hope you all enjoy this mod for BI .

Main Features

- Enhanced looks for pretty much all units
- New recruitment system
- Multiple provincial campaigns (BI WarMap II, Expanded BI Map etc.)
- New units for factions with limited rosters (Saxons, Berbers, Celts) and for all factions too.
- All factions available for playing in campaign map, with it's faction map in selection screen, faction leader icon and faction description.
- Officers and standard bearers for all units including mercenaries and rebels
- Pantheon for Paganistic Temples.
- Lost skins inside BI folder finally will find a use. Skins for saxons, celts, nomads etc.
- Pack of new historical battles.
- Bug-Fixer by Player1 included

Installation

1. Unpack content of the archive to your Rome - Total War folder. A folder bi-vanilla-mod will appear inside your game folder, near EXE file. It won't interfere with any of vanilla files and will not overwrite anything. This is a modfolder required for mod to work. It needs BI 1.6
2. Either just run the Executable.bat from inside bi-vanilla-mod folder, or make a shortcut manually for RomeTW-BI.exe on your desktop, right click for Properties and add the following to the end of the "Object" field:
-show_err -mod:bi-vanilla-mod

FAQ

Q: What do i need to run this mod ?
A: You need RTW Barbarian Invasion 1.6.

Q: Can i do a sub-mod for this mod and release it to the public?
A: You can make a sub-mod for your own personal use, but you are not allowed to release it to the public.

Q: Why this mod has vanilla colours and it's not historicall accurate ?
A: This mod enhances vanilla looks and fixes some things in the gameplay . We didn't wish for it to be more historically accurate, just more fun to play .

Please guys, fix the problem where the mod crashes to desktop if a unit with no texture in models_unit/textures is selected for battle in custom battle or in the campaign :( I would really like to play this one on original BI

I'm playing as the WRE, I modified the map_heights a bit to make land bridges in Constantinople, Sicily, Gibraltar (this one didn't work because of impassable mountains) and the Dardanelles so I don't know if it is the reason for these issues:

1.- I can't hire any mercenary unit as WRE! is this by design or is something wrong with my game? I fell like it is missing flavor to my armies lol

2.- in the settlement 'Spalatum Salona'(Illyria) I can't build a port, but I still get the sea trade spotted line to it from say, Tarraco.

Thanks for doing the mod!

Hi again,

I'm having a very good time playing this mod, I wish I found it sooner!

One thing I notice with the WRE though is that Foederati got changed to like heavy infantry that uses axes but that leaves early roman armies with out spear infantry with bonus against cavalry! could there be another foederati in a future patch that has anti-cav bonus? I used this unit in normal BI to counter heavy cav armies and target the faction leader.

Also, there are two types of limitanei available for recruitment at Carthage: normal and desert, isn't this a bit redundant? shouldn't only be desert limitanei there? The desert Limitanei has better stats and is cheaper too!

hI,

I notice there are several maps in there, one called WarMapII

what is this? and how to enable?

btw BI looks much nicer now while keeping that vanilla feel. Very good as BI is my favorite game of the two.

Very good mod for BI, now units look much better, gameplay too. Bi was kinda forgoten by moders but you did a great job in 1.2 ver. Are you planing to release future updates like: more vanilla based units, AOR mercenary system-which is rare in Bi mods?

I have my copy of Total War: Rome on steam.
The folder for the game is called "Total War Rome Gold". Does this count as the same folder that is mentioned in the installation instruction?`

Since I am at it, I am also wondering if I should unpack the mod in the main game folder or the "bi" folder. As it is a mod for BI I would expect unpacking it there.

Apoc

Hello ApocFyerah!
Folder "bi-vanilla-mod" goes to your TW Rome folder, where the rest of the game folders are (the .exe files and folders called data, custom, preferences etc.) After that, you need to edit your launch options for RTW Gold in Steam. Right click the game in your library, go to properties, then launch options, then just add "-mod:bi-vanilla-mod -show_err". If you like to be able to play both vanilla game and mod, you might find it useful to create a virtual "clone" of RTW in your Steam library, so one shortcut will launch regular game, and another will launch the mod. This is done via the trick with "Add game" button, you can point Steam to its own game and create a duplicated shortcut in your Steam library. Hope it helps! If you find any difficulties, just find us in Discord server.

So anything on the next update? I'm giddy with anticipation. Also are there plans to port this mod over to the remaster? Just asking because I heard that most mods can be converted over.

To anyone wondering about the "min horde unit not supported" problem on Steam, just:

1) right click on Rome Total War - Gold
2) click properties
3) General < Launch Options
4) copy paste in the launch options textbox "-show_err -mod:bi-vanilla-mod"

it's a common error due to the wrong launcher used. it picks the classic rome total war launcher as default, where the "min horde unit" parameter is not used, so it crash.
