The goal of BattleGroup-Frontlines is to shift the players of Battlefield 2 back to the Eastern Front of the Second World War. BattleGroup-Frontlines will feature an extremely authentic atmosphere. Features include: - Historically accurate vehicles, aircraft, and weapons - Realistic and accurate sounds - Realistic weapon aiming and firing physics - Famous battlefields Our team’s goal of realism is an ambitious one, with the need of incorporating accurate striking powers and ranges of weapons. Naturally, a few things will need to be amended for the sake of quality gameplay. We believe that it is possible to incorporate both incredible realism and exciting gameplay, and BattleGroup-Frontlines will achieve that balance. In BattleGroup-Frontlines, you are given the option of playing as one of several great nations: Russia, the German Reich and Hungary (in later releases). Smaller countries will also be involved, but not as the primary players.

Development of the 5cm Leichte Granatwerfer 36 was started in 1934 and it was adopted for service in 1936. Its intended role was to engage pockets of resistance that were beyond the range of hand grenades (a role in which more than 550,000 rounds were used during the French Campaign in 1940); as such it was designed for high angled fire only (no less than 42°). The main drawbacks of the weapon were its inadequate range and the limited effectiveness of its ammunition (not heavy enough). Because of this by 1943 the LeGrW 36 production was ended and they were slowly withdrawn from frontline service although they were in service until the end of the war with non-frontline units.

The 8cm Schwere Granatwerfer 34 was the standard German medium mortar throughout the war and gained a reputation for extreme accuracy and a rapid rate of fire (a lot down to the crews training). It was developed in 1932 and entered service in 1934 and over 72,000 were produced by 1945. It was straightforward in design and was therefore robust and could be broken down into 3 sections for carrying. The sGrW34 could fire a extensive range of ammunition (from high explosive to smoke and target illumination bombs) as well as a wide range of captured ammunition (although with a slight loss in performance).

The Opel Blitz was developed in the early 1930’s and entered service in 1935 (military production: 1937-1944 – production disrupted by Allied bombing) and it was found to be superior to its competitors. During this time the Opel company was under the control of General Motors which had acquired the company in 1929, however the management wasn’t trusted by the German authorities and the company was nationalised in 1940 (General Motors only regained control in 1948 ). The Blitz came in two version the A (4X4) and the S (2x4) types with only small differences (body and undercarriage) between the two. There were many different types ranging from open versions to closed versions and half-track versions (Opel Maultier).
