Battlefield 1944 aims to be a modern HD reimagining of the 2002 classic PC game Battlefield 1942. The mod will feature more classes than the original game had, and will also aim to do away with unrealistic historically incorrect equipment. No longer will British use American weapons and vehicles. Japanese will also no longer be stuck to using German equipment and weapons. All factions will be using historically authentic equipment, weapons and vehicles.

So we finally have a new video to show which gives you a greater overview of all the factions and vehicles we have in the game. I hope everybody enjoys this nice little video montage and keeps a lookout for more in the future! This one even shows off our Nationalist Chinese Kuomintang Army which so few WW2 games ever even include or talk about in the West. We think this will help us be unique and set us up for a way more varied setting than simply just North Africa, Europe and the Pacific. So without further ado, please sit back and enjoy the montage!

Looks good so far. One thing I dislike from FH is that handheld MG cannot be used unless on prone. Would love too see that it is not going to be the case.

The sounds of the guns are great. Keep the loud bang, don't nerf it for "comfortable" reasons.

at the 2:09 timestamp in the video you can see the guy hip fire aims the M1919A6 LMG standing and zooms in when right clicking mouse. You can then go prone to view ADS view. But you can use the LMG's standing from the hips, and even zoom in from hips, think vanilla BF2 shotguns animation when ADS. But then the moment you go prone if zoomed in you can see ADS view. It is all automatically done.

Nah we like loud sounds, not gonna nerf that haha.

That is a nice idea. Hip firing MG42 no ADS like the infantry guys in company of heroes is badass. Who need accuracy when they're 10 metters in front of you then? Just spray it.

Gameplay being closer to 1942 is great. This is the remake we all need. More weapons, more vehicles, more armies but none of the cosmetic and customization nonsenses in modern fps games.

Yeah you can say that again brother! While some of our weapons will have sights when it was historically accurate, we don't want like crazy skins on guns and stuff that breaks the actual atmosphere of WW2 or has any anachronistic looking sights on guns that are way out of line for the time period. I blame COD WAW for starting that trend of stupid holo sights on WW2 games and crap.

Yeah, WAW was probably the last good COD but it has many flaws. The MP part being MW1 clone is just the start. Seriously, silencer and sights on MP40 of all thing? Barely anyone get an automatic weapon back then, much less that ugly fake red dot. Even in the Vietnam era my father never held a weapon with scope. Before the M16 came he was using the WW2 leftovers, without any real change. Not being a realistic simulator isn't an excuse to be unauthentic. This is also the reason why I dislike how some BF2 mods that added rail and grip on all weapons, even the ones with only iron sight. BF2 was made in 2005 and play in the past. It's entirely reasonable for China to use AK47 and Type 85 or US not having tacticool garbage. Removing them is like removing the game's spirit, unless you're doing total conversion.

Seriously this is so impressive. I really like the realism, like not running and gunning with MGs, having to go prone to ADS. Some of the blur and blood effects feel reminiscent of Call of Duty MW. The textures and tanks look really good, and there is high attention to detail. 80 maps, wow I hope they all play well. Can't wait to try this out!

Hahaha there he is! Glad you like it bro! Was wondering when you would see it. After 3 full years of hard work it really has shaped up to a great mod. But as you know some stuff still needs lots of polish to be truly great.

Hey Anthony, I have a small group of players that would love to check this out. I'll throw together a pub server to run it on if you are interested. We're old school 42/Vietnam/BF2 players that were heavily involved in the custom map scene in the day.

Ah really? That is fantastic. So you and your guys know how to do custom maps? We actually need as many good mappers as possible on the team to help us realize the 1942 map remakes in BF2. We have a serious lack of dedicated mappers on the team currently. Could you show me some examples of BF2 maps your guys created please?

Hey Anthony, I guess I should have clarified. We were heavy into 42 and Vietnam maps. No BF2 mapping. More than anything, we did a lot of play testing and provided feedback. Our custom map events were promoted on PlanetBF.

Again, it's been a long, long time and when I posted this to our Facebook group, guys we haven't seen in a while showed interest.

Well, I mean we do need to start looking into doing some closed tests to make sure everything is working well online. Just so much work to do and we are constantly adding stuff all the time. I may hit you up if we decide on wanting to have some online playtests. I was going to wait to get some more content my vehicle exporter and weapon exporters were working on first before I made another full sized internal dev version to send out to the rest of the team. But I do not want to get you or anyone else's hopes up. We are still deeply focused on optimizing certain maps and adding more content to the mod for right now. So I will not say one way or the other if we will do any online testing for now.

Well, right now we have planned 7 factions at least for the first release. China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and United States. We are discussing adding Poland sometime in the future, but as for if they will be ready in the first release I can not say for sure.

I have stopped working on Warfront for BF1942, as I have no more time to mod. Anything you can use from Warfront, you have my permission, and if I get a chance I will pack up all my dev files as well...I have a lot of content that never got finished (I'll hit you up if and when I get around to doing this). Just be sure to credit me, please. Hope this helps.
