Back to Basics fans,
Version 3.0 has been released! It has been more than eight months of development and we have a lot of changes included. Now for some details of what this release contains:
- Global combat mechanics have been improved in many ways, creating a more constant, less random and more skill based battles, while maintaining the lethality of all the weapons. The combat system of the mod continues to improve with both being balanced yet cruelly realistic and deadly.
- Every nation has received a lot of attention in terms of balancing and design. These changes create more diverse army composition options, making everything more viable to get and use, adding depth, but maintaining balance.
- Every Commander Tree has been redesigned and rebalanced. every tree now takes 18 Command Points to unlock. Every unlock path has been more viable to take, allowing for more diversity in your games.
- Cleaned up and improved a lot of the game's UI. All descriptions and names have been improved drastically, all the hotkey fixed issues have been resolved, a lot of the graphics have been updated.
- High definition ground textures have been added, adding additional detail while maintaining the original feel of the maps.
- Local ambient occlusion masks have been improved and added for every faction unit creating a nice visual addition to the game.
- Improved all crater normal maps, creating a more realistic and nuanced look. Crater sizes and depth have also been adjusted and improved.
- The AI has been greatly improved once again. Script performance has been optimized, large part of the code has been completely rewritten to majorly improve AIs target choices and resource spending.
- All maps have received up to 100 AI markers per map. This means that the AI will form better front lines, have a better idea where the weak spots in enemy defenses are and it'll also use thee markers for possible positions for building its emplacements.
- Fixed nearly all reported bugs, errors and imbalances. This includes save game crashes, campaign and tutorials.

You have to remove the previous version of the mod, otherwise it won't work. At least remove the Improved folder. Then feel free to replace the files it asks to replace
this has nothing to do with backing up your COH
mod's don't change your coh main game files

I was nervous about using rar in case i corrupted the other mods/or COH version 2.602 i have installed already.
I haven't used any previous versions of Back to Basics .
Is there anything else i should be careful of when installing Battle of the Basics please ?

Nope, If you already have it just extract to your main COH folder and if none of your other mods are using their module names (improved I think) then it should be just fine.

The ModDB download should work properly. Unfortunately the Rapidshare mirrors only allow 1 download per day (they are only there are extreme back up). The one at Mega should work fine as well.

I have downloaded the rar file but it throws up a lot of errors withe the narrative "The system cannot find the path specified"
I am extracting the rar files into the pathway you recommend (COH main folder).
Please do you have any advice?
Are you sure you have downloaded the whole package. Maybe you accidentally interruped the download and tried to open the archive while not being completed?

You might have not even finished it, but it could also just be a transfer problem.
Thanks, I did re-download and a few files it said it could not find. It let me skip or cancel. But with skipping a few of these it could not find, it did load and start up and was able to play a skirmish and did not have any problems yet. Will this effect anything?
It shouldn't be a direct problem. Could you tell me which files you had to skip?
Oh. This could be an age-old problem of some files being compressed badly or something. We don't know what the actual problem is, but it's absolutely harmless. Doesn't even cause any issues when playing with other people so all the files are definitely in tact. It gives the message about some rubble_debris file missing, if I recall correctly. You don't need to redownload in this case, just ignore it :)

I can't download this at all, I get to game front and when I click download it just gives me the little loading page and the other Mirrors don't get me anywhere as well but never actually starts to download. Ive downloaded mods off here before but never had this issue any thoughts on why
Yea sorry about this guys. This has been reported a bunch to us, it's a bit out of our control, really not sure what's wrong with moddb. Please try some of the mirrors.
Keep in mind though, rapidshare mirrors only work once per day. This is something we haven't been aware of while uploading to rapidshare but it's a shame letting the mirrors go to waste and it does help a few people anyway.
Mega is probably the best mirror to use, I haven't heard people complain about it not working so far, but it's still possible there's a few limitations with it as well.
Generally speaking, just try all 4 of the links once per day and you'll surely be able to download it soon, if not right away with Mega.

Hey. We've been trying to resolve this issue for the last couple of days. Please check the main post for additional mirrors. Try strategyinformer, should be best! :)
Sorry if this question is stupid, but isn't Patch 2.602 for Tales of Valior, if not then im just once again fooled by my own insticts!
Company of Heroes expansion packs are completely compatible with the rest of the game, so all the patches are also shared :) Patch 2.602 affects both Tales of Valor and Company of Heroes itself.

Yeah it's a known issue. I'll most likely re-upload the file to ModDB tonight or something. Have you tried any of the linked mirrors? The one from Mega should work especially.

How do you install this mod? No executive file to run setup.
OK So I did just like the instructions said and when I click on the shortcut it just gives me a relic crash report????? Can someone help??

how do you get the mod on the new steam version of COH1?
Is there a way to get another file type. This was always a great mod, but I can't get a single rar. file to work after WinRAR. I have not played it since my last computer which ****** me off to no end. This was my favorite one. It is just a request.

no, this was released way before the new steam version. To launch it without steam make a shortcut of reliccoh.exe, go to its properties and add -mod Improved -dev. Should look something like "C:\Program Files\Company of Heroes\RelicCOH.exe" -mod Improved -dev
