My favourite class of super star destroyer!
I remember back in the days you could destroy the Executor with five Battle Dragons.
Do you also remember back in the day when one MC90 with barely any support could take on an Executor?
I think you can actually do that in the alpha. I've never tried it though myself.
Yeah, I hate the Battle Dragons.
"...fielded by the Imperial Navy. It has..." not "It's has" :-*
But, I love the new Cards.
Love everything about this...but the advanced fighters. In my opinion, Rebel fighters should be the only thing that can destroy an Executor and giving the ship advanced fighters could mess with the balance. Hopefully its just TIE Interceptors or something. Other than that, the Executor should be an OP beast.
"Rebel fighters should be the only thing that can destroy an Executor and giving the ship advanced fighters could mess with the balance. "
yeah no... even during Endor, the only thing that brought down the Executors shields had been concentrated fire by the Rebel fleet, which in legends included at least 40 Mon Cal cruisers.
I know that Mothmatists and other Rebel fanboys like to massively overpower their fighters in Stories etc... but its ridicoulus..
Um, it was the concentrated fire of mostly the Rebel fighters that brought it down. Why do you think it showed the Executor shooting the fighters attacking it in ROTJ? Heck, it was a A-Wing that killed the thing. So yeah, Rebel fighters and there pilots (and that's important as well. Rebel pilots were really good.) were really the ONLY reason the Rebellion won at the Battle of Endor.
40 mon cal cruisers what???
Reichtangle Lol, I just realized you said 40 Mon Calamari cruisers thanks to _w_'s comment. There were only about 7 to 12 Mon Cal cruisers in the Battle of Endor. Are you talking about the New Republic? They would probably have 40 Mon Cal cruisers but not the Alliance.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rebel_Command_Fleet
"The fleet numbered hundreds of small vessels supported by at least forty MC80 Star Cruisers. "
And yes, that's the Endor Fleet. Not NR.
Even canon (yuck) gives us ATLEAST 13 Mon Cal Cruisers. ANd I wouldn't be surprised if they increase the number at some point.
AND it was NOT the concentrated fire of the fighters that brought the shields down. The whole fn REBEL FLEET Concentrated the Fire on the Executor. The only thing the fighters did, was blowing up the bridge shield generator and crashing into the bridge. AFTER the shields wend down.
Ok, maybe the fleet did have about 40 Mon Cal cruisers, but the ships were way to busy fighting the ISDs. You can even see them engaging the ISDs in the background in the movie. Most of Mon Cal cruisers were not even facing the Executor.
And even IF it was the concentrated fire of the Mon Cal cruisers, the fighters were the biggest part of taking it down.
What I'm saying is that if the Executor (which is already a fleet killer) has op fighters or fighters equal to the Rebels, nothing can stand against it especially with ISD support. Rebel fighters should be the key factor in destroying an SSD.
Thrawn was right. Building Executor class deardnaughts is a significant mistake.
Their size makes them incredibly inefficient. Their cost could've gone to produce more ISD's. But nah, Grand Moff Tarkin got a hard-on for large objects. smh
Didn't the empire have 25,000 or so Imperial-class Star Destroyers? It seems to me that incompetent command was more at fault for the failure of the Executor-class than its potential power assertion. In game, when used as choke point defenders or offensive spearheads I've found them quite effective.
I feel the mistake was the building of the first and second Death Star and not enough SSD's. Imagine a fleet of SSD's under the command of Thrawn.
Thrawn disliked SSDs mostly because of their cumbersome movement abilities and their less than optimal versatility for their high price.
Thrawn likes combined arms units and the ability to rapidly respond on several theatres, Imperial-clas Star Destroyers, Victory-classes or the Venator are much better suited for such an approach.
If a true heavy hitter is needed, I'd wager that Thrawn would opt to either use Tector-class vessels, Allegiance-class Battlecruisers or Praetor II-class units as while they are stronger than normal line Star Destroyers, they're not as cumbersome and over-the-top as Star Dreadnoughts like the Executor.
The Death Stars were indeed even more waste of rescources which was acknowledged by both Thrawn and General Tagge.
According to Tagge, with the resources wasted for the Death Star they could have constructed so many SSDs that each sector could have had at least one.
In the old Legends Canon, I think the Empire was rumored to have Executor-classes at least in the low three-digit range while in the new Disney Canon so far there are only 13 know SSDs.
"... is one of the largest ships fielded ..." now i am interested
Which model are you using?
But why is it so small in the game? Or...speaking of size. Why are the Lucrehulks so small?
Definitely deserves the designation of 'dreadnought' based on size alone. Add in the massive multitude of guns and fighter compliment, you've got a behemoth no one wants to go head-on with.
Not something I'd use, really, in a mainline battle. Too cumbersome. Sure, it's a big behemoth of death, but that don't mean jack squat if you can't get it to its target. Seriously, if the Empire would've put the resources that were used to make its entire fleet of SSDs into smaller ships, like Victory-class ships or Imperial-class ships, I think they might've done a lot better.
