So we want to bring Team Fortress to AvP2. It shouldn't be too difficult, all of the weapons we need are already in AvP2, and configuring armor and run speeds and whatnot isn't too hard. What we need, however, is input on how this should go down, and modders to make the more difficult things happen, like possibly adding new weapons and more importantly, new GAME MODES, like Capture the Flag or Assault, things that teams do that aren't Team Deathmatch. However, this is AvP2 Fortress, so everything should have an AvP2 twist to it. Like Preds and Aliens on the teams realistically, but not whorishly. No Predator rocket-launcher guys, for example, but a Predator as the Spy, a class that's supposed to cloak and primarily use a knife anyway. -- SMID

Post news Report RSS AvP2Fortress brings the first beta

After reaching beta, this Friday brigs the media update related to the first build. We're talking about the game modes on the available maps, showing a video for Assault.

The first beta version of Fortress is here. If you went through the two steps described right next to the Picture Of The Day, when logging in, you should notice that the right-upper corner of the page looks different: there's a download link available. For more details on joining the beta testing program, pay us a visit at www.avp2fortress.co.nr.

The same link is available also on the download page, in the "Private beta versions" list. Only one beta version will be available at any time.
Speaking of the download page, if you're looking for the previous alpha version, you can still get the last alpha at Moddb.com.

Now I know that I already gave a description of the current beta maps before, however, I need to point out what is the general set-up of the maps and how the game is supposed to work with them. In Assault game mode, the blue team is attacking an objective guarded by the red team. The general rule is that the attackers have to shoot and destroy a given objective, but this is not always the case.

In "Gunnison County Forest", the blue team spawns near the truck displayed in the image on the left, and they need to reach the crashed predator ship and set it to self-destruct. To do that, the bule team must override the safety mecanisms of the ship by hacking the opened pannel at the rear of the spacecraft (see picture on the right). However, this is going to be quite a challenge, since the only classes equiped with hacking devices are the human and predator engineers. Basically, the blue team needs to keep it's engineer alive for the two seconds needed to hack the pannel. Still, the reward for this is worth the effort:

The other two maps ("Station 46" and "Our Collective Fate") are symmetric, and because of this, the other three game modes (CTF, War and One-Flag CTF) are implemented on them.

The following images are taken from One-Flag CTF, but the differences are quite minimal in regards with the other two game modes. Basically, each player spawns in it's team's base (here we're showing the red base). Each base has an objective: in One Flag CTF is the enemy flag, in War it will be an object that needs to be kept alive, in CTF will be it's own flag. The physical position of these objectives is the one shown in the two pictures.

While in War or in Capture the Flag, the neutral zone ("no-man's land") will be empty. In One-Flag CTF, however, things will look different: the neutral flags (this is the first objective in One-Flag CTF) will spawn in this very place. Since the area is right in the middle, bring the biggest guns with you to handle encounters with the enemy team.

Since the two maps are symmetrical, the enemy base has a similar layout as your own base, including the placement of the objectives.

Unrelated with the beta, you probably noticed the tagboard (shoutbox) on the right side of the page, right under the tower add.
The main idea behind the tagboard is to make yourselves heared if you encounter any problems, for example when signing up or logging in. My preffered method to handle this kind of issues is by sending an e-mail; however, if (for any reason) you want to remain annonymous, the shoutbox is your best choice.
I plan to add a second one, in place of the beta campaign program text (right of the Picture Of The Day), available only to beta testers and contributors: the main idea is to use it to schedule the tests themselves and to broadcast server details like IP, port and password. Since it will be visible only for testers and contributors, it is safe enough to carry that kind of informations.
