I read that the Maori had devices similar to rams or ballistas, but they were used for felling trees.
I think that would be make a interesting unit or maybe a card (May be something like ''artillery has more attack and villagers gather wood faster'' or ''artillery trickles wood'')

Always appreciate aoe2 siege coming into the aoe3 engine. There really needs to an expansion of siege engines into the more native factions of the game. Last we saw this was the old Zulu catapult that was built by villagers from a house.

I think Malta could use some catapults for a more medieval-style siege.

I mean, they already have trebuchets, but they still use falconets and culverins. Could use some onagers/catapults and scorpions/ballista instead.

I had the same suggestion. And it isn't like both units haven't been implemented in a aoe3 mod before. There is a ballista unit that is part of the aoe1 hd mod already as well as working animations for catapults, so implementing wouldn't be hard. To be honest the foundry should be all aoe2 siege and the factory should spawn some archaic cannon like the current hapsburg lil bombard with the imp upgrade.

That's a splendid idea! Hope the devs implement this as part of rework. Medieval civ with colonial era cannons just doesn't look right.
