  1. New Tough Difficulty Mode:
    Less goodies throughout the levels
Lantern will consume oil more quickly
Enemies will be faster, they will spot you more easily, they will deal more damage
Some sections of the story will be a bit harder to be completed successfully
Some levels enviroments will be a bit more foggy
In the lastest section of the story death triggers a "bad ending"
  2. New Masochist Difficulty Mode:
Everything that is included in tough mode but even more hard

    There are no oil barrels
There are just a few well hidden goodies throughout the levels

  4. New Crybaby Difficulty Mode:
Everything that is included in easy mode but even more simple
Each time a level is loaded you'll get some free goodies
No sanity drain while in the darkness + no fall health damage (unless it's specifically scripted, like for example in the Study)
  5. New Funny Mode:
It alters the voices of the enemies and the music related to the enemies
It does NOT affect the difficulty of the game

HOW TO ACTIVATE THEM:

You must press some little buttons that you can find in every hub level, there will be 3 buttons to change the mode you are currently playing. If you never interact with these buttons you will play by default in Normal Mode, you can change the mode you are playing in any moment as many times as you want.

BUTTONS LOCATIONS:

  • Rainy Hall: After starting a new game you can find the 3 buttons to your left near where the player wakes up.
  • Entrance Hall: When arriving from the Old Archives door just after entering inside the hall look to your right, the 3 buttons can be found on the floor near some broken stairs.
  • Back Hall: The 3 buttons are placed on the floor in a corner into the elevator room, when looking at the elevator go to the right corner close to one of the lions statues.
  • Cistern Entrance: There is a giant door which cannot be opened, there are a few stairs leading up to this giant door, you can find the 3 buttons on the floor under the stairs.
  • Nave: At the bottom of the big spiral staircase you will find the 3 buttons on the floor near a corner.

AVAILABLE VERSIONS:

  • Base Version: includes all the essential files to run the mod

  • Greedy Version: includes the Base Version to run the mod + all the optional changes and fixes

OPTIONAL CHANGES/FIXES:

  • Lantern Light Mod V1: includes a custom version of the lantern's light + in-game screenshots.

  • Doors Sounds Fixes: by installing this enemies will react to any doors sounds in the game, opening or closing a door while an enemy is near could alert the enemy of the player presence.
  • Extra Fixes: includes various optional fixes to some entities and sounds + ReadMe text files.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS:

The latest version of Amnesia is required! This mod will override some already existing files of the game but without changing too much of the original concept built by the developers of the game, more precisely I made this mod in a way that it will not appear that intrusive. If you decide to keep this mod installed even after you completely explored it, will it influence also the custom stories installed? The answer is yes, it's inevitable, but it will only influence a custom story if that custom story uses some of the default game enemies, nothing else will be affected. The changes to the default enemies are minimal, here there are the differences that you may notice: the grunt will have a moderately increased sight range, he will deal slightly less damage; the brute will have a slightly increased sight range, he will be slightly faster, he will deal less damage; the suitor will be moderately faster, he will deal moderately less damage; the water monster will eat meat you throw into the water slightly faster.

New small bug-fix update

News

Hey guys! The mod has been updated to fix some bugs, here there's a list of what has been fixed:

- Fixed an issue related to goodies: putting sanity potions and large oils could cause the player to get stuck at some point because of the inventory being too full. To fix this issue some items required for puzzles will be removed once they are completely useless and they only waste space in the inventory, large oils have been removed but regular oils have been increased to balance, the number of sanity potions have been decreased.

- Fixed an issue related to funny monsters sounds: a custom story could deliberately use the funny enemies sounds before, it has now been fixed. Now a custom story could use the funny enemies sounds but only on purpose (it's up to the dev)

- Fixed some issues related to the appearance of the map 04_wine_cellar_lab.map

That's all! Sorry for the issues, if you discover other bugs please let me know! See you :D

I can't get the story to appear in my custom stories. Or is it not there? like I just start the game normally and play

Yeah, exactly. Start a new game and you should already see the changes in the first map, for istance, after you start a new game and your character wakes up you'll see near you some buttons on the floor, those are needed to try the new modes :)

I trust this will be an ACTUAL hard mode this time around? not just frictional turning off danger music? because in the hard mode they released I could for the life of me not find anything different or other then constantly dying to sanity loss

umukzus yes it is, although I didn't include the thing "if your sanity drops to zero you're dead" or "if you die you have to restart from your previous save" because I couldn't find a way to implement those, I could add a "bad ending trigger" if the player dies but then I thought that would be a bit annoying, I've only added it to the very last section of the story. I hope you'll find it challenging, if you have any suggestions let me know ;D

Do you seriously expect anyone to read that text wall of a description? Jeez

GatewaySnake I've written a detailed description because it's an overhaul mod, by installing the mod you'll change some default game files, which can look risky to some people, so I wanted to reassure those people and specify almost every single change you'll get.

It's good that you listed all the changes, but:
- Lists are better for this
- The change descriptions are too verbose
- Some of the text is just rambling
- It's not formatted at all.

My point being, no-one will care to read this, and you will have the exactly opposite effect - less people will play. This is like trying to sell a car by making people read its manual.

Also you should use FC mods for something like this, not make the players overwrite their files.

GatewaySnake this time I wanted to do something different from a custom story or a full conversion mod. Do you have any advice for me to improve the changes list? I was thinking about a text file, included inside the zip file, that lists briefly the changes.

Such arrogant behavior. Luckily votes speak for themselves.
