The Darkness is a mod designed to put the players into a much more difficult position than that of the original Alien Swarm, by removing a lot of lighting, as well as adding support for 8 player cooperative games, both Online and Offline with bot support. Aliens burn in the light from flares, medpacks and buff mines, ala Pitch Black (Riddick), and of course the Bloodhound transport lights also have the same effect. The end goal is create a seperate version of Alien Swarm for the Riddick's among us. Enjoy! Development is in progress, and a working BETA is available.

After a whole lot of work, may I present for download Swarm Tactics 0.5 which includes The Darkness 0.5.
No longer is it impossible for player vs player in alien swarm.
The rules are simple. You get 5 points each for player kills till the max is reached for the game mode.
TDM Max = 300 points to win for a team
Tactics Max = 200 points to win for a team
It can be changed to a different value by server or if cheats are set to on as well.
I plan to make it possible to change that later via the menu.

3 maps + 2 of my own vmf type maps for you to play with. Those two arent quite finished yet.
Note that you need to select the gamemode within the actual lobby itself, after you select the correct campaign for the gamemode you want.

Played it a bit. It's really hard to play when everything is red, your flashlight, any lights on the map are red too.
Anyway, is it possible to get access to the source code for educational purposes?
sorry guys had other priorities for a while... recently broke my foot ;D again! Anyway, compatibility issues might be better soon just got to get my c++ compiler back up to speed.
Been working on stuff for BF2 occaisionally and some other stuff irl.
Anyhow, should have some new things for this soon.
Installation is pretty easy, just got to copy the directory into your alien swarm sourcemods folder. You can find that in the steam directory/steamapps
The crash is caused by a memory address conflict, i think, and its something that valve needs to fix on their end in the code that I cant access. Anyhow, i'll try a new build soon and see if it works any better.
What download have the latest version of this mod since most of the things I see are tactics?
Tactics includes the darkness. It was somewhat of a test alpha for tactic's rendering engine
I crash when playing this, I'm running at 1600x900 max everything. The normal game runs fine but I crash randomly halfway through games on swarm tactics. The flashlight's red, why not white? It's such a great game :D
Thanks for the compliment :) The red flashlight idea was about adjusting your eyes to how dark the screen is. plus it looks cool ;)
Sorry about the crash, its been a problem since 0.1 i need to fix it soon. I had debugging finally working near the end of the last dev cycle though... so fingers crossed
new version has zip file, and flashlight is now active on every marine :D just press your f key :D
