'Acropolis' is a fully-fledged multiplayer total conversion for the Source Engine.

The mod is based at around 500BC, during the Greco-Persian war era where Prince Xerxes invaded Greece.

Join the ranks of the loyal Spartans - The elite of the elite, you have been chosen to fight by Leonidas' side in a counter attack to stop the Persians where they stand in their efforts to overtake Greece, Or join King Xerxes' army of the damned - The Immortals. You and your fellow soldiers were once men, but are now tormented, disfigured and horrific beings. Xerxes has promised you and your fellow men everlasting life if you conquer Greece on your Crusade of the disturbed.

Gameplay Description
Acropolis will centre its game play upon teamwork based assault and defence, using easily communicated formations, and a variety of classes and class setups to achieve certain goals. The main game type will be capturing the point, where teams will have to push against one another in order to capture the control points, and therefore in order to win the game.
Acropolis will feature monumentally different game play features, compared with other first person melee games, such as:
• Player co-ordinated formations, in order to capture/defend certain areas of the maps
• A horrific and somewhat gory element of game play, which will include decapitation and limb removal
• A selection of classes on the Persian team, and one, quite customisable class on the Spartan team, wherein parts of the player’s equipment can be removed to gain abilities, but also lose certain abilities.
• Players will take part in large 64-man battles, in which we hope to create the feel of the battle, and frighten players using horrific ambient sounds and mutilated player models.

Project Aims
The project is an adaptation of the Acropolis concept, which will use large 32 man teams, to give players the feel of the Grecian battles between the Spartans and the Persians.
The aims are as follows:
• A range of classes to give players individual experiences while keeping the critical game play needs fulfilled.
• Large maps, giving players room to take part in 64 man battles.
• To use horror/fantasy elements - including atmospheric sounds – to give the player the feeling of fear that was felt in the actual battles themselves.
• To create a unique game play mechanic, using team battle formations, and a specific visual style to give players a new experience in heavily teamwork based gaming.
• To have the use of teamwork and communicated decisions

The mod is shaping up nicely and exactly how we want it to.

Hi everyone,

We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New year!

A lot of work has been going on here at Acropolis, so take a look: -

New forums, (link is below)
New media,
New site in development.

So firstly, we've got some nice, shiny new forums up for you all to join and post on! We thought it would be a good way to advertise the mod, keep in touch with out community and communicate with everyone a lot easier. So, if you can, do the guys at Acropolis a favour and join up and post at www.acropolis.2fear.com (will be up within 24 hours of this post!)

Secondly, here are some great screenshots of our Thermopylae map that Hogan is currently working on:

As you can see, boulders are mounted along this section of the pass and can be knocked down with various ranged weapons, and when this happens......

... Just make sure you don't get in the way!

Here's a fairly long, and very fragile rope bridge which suspends above a sharp and extremely deep drop; make sure you don't fall off in the heat of battle!

And finally, here is the cliffside so far!

Lastly, we're currently designing and creating a website for Acropolis which will hopefully be up sometimes soon!

That's all for now folks, so stay tuned, register up on the boards and take care!

See you all soon,

Sean (ChaoticSpear)

Edit:

As I'm sure you all know, keeping the community interested is hard - we aim to do so by releasing news as often as we think necessary so fans can get a real sense of mod development and have a good look at how things progress and how they are doneo etc; so if you think we're releasing too many updates, then that's up to you - we are very proud of our work and feel that every thing we do for this mod is to be showed to the community, so if you disagree, please do not comment.

Thanks

Would be nice to see a mod like this! Got my support.

Try and get a website + forums up for people to see that you are serious about it, and to attract the attention of others.
